Kyle Busch visited victory lane for the 63rd time in his Craftsman Truck Series career on Friday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Busch, racing at his home track dubbed as Sin City, won the pole and led 84 of the 134 laps of the Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200.

“There were a couple dicey moments in traffic—not too bad—but I would have loved to have raced with Zane,” said Busch after the race to FS1. “They kind of got off strategy where we were able to cycle up, and we got clean air for most of the start of that last run.”

Zane Smith sat 4.981 seconds behind the winner to earn the runner-up finish at the 1.5-mile oval. Smith started seventh and led eight circuits, scoring his 27th top-five and 49th career top-10 finish.

Having seven career starts at his home track in the truck series, Busch earned his fourth Craftsman Truck Series victory at Las Vegas and will leave with six top-five and seven top-10 finishes. Busch already has sights set on winning Saturday’s XFINITY Series and Sunday’s Cup Series events also at Las Vegas this weekend.

“All in all, just a great night here, to be able to win in Las Vegas again—and you’ve got to win the first to be able to win all three. Right?,” he added in his victory interview.

Ben Rhodes sat third behind the wheel of the No. 99 Ford with team ThorSport Racing after a ninth-place start. In the second event of the year in the new season, the leader of two circuits leaves with his first top-five finish of 2023.

Corey Heim and Ty Majeski rounded out the top five.

Taking home top 10s were Christian Eckes, Carson Hocevar, Chase Purdy, Grant Enfinger, and Jake Garcia.

Garcia captured his first career top-10 on Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway piloting the No. 35 Chevrolet entry for McAnally HilgeMann Racing. The Georgia driver with sponsorship from Quanta started 14th on the leaderboard.

The field slowed six times due to caution and had an average speed of 173.038 mph.

The most notable crash drew the sixth and final yellow flag of the race on lap 61 on the backstretch involving Hailie Deegan, John Hunter Nemechek, and Ross Chastain. Chastain continued to eventually place 24th and four laps down while Nemecvhek and Deegan went to the garage.

The next race for the Craftsman Truck Series will take place at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 18th live on FS1 and MRN Radio.

NASCAR announced penalties following its season opener at Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday.

The penalty sheet involved NASCAR indefinitely suspending Cory Roper for violating the sanctioning bodies substance abuse policy. Roper, who is a former driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, currently serves as the team manager for Roper Racing.

There were no other penalties issued.

Greg Van Alst came out as the surprise winner on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway after passing Jason White on the final lap to grab his first career ARCA victory. Van Alst, after starting seventh on the starting grid, led six circuits throughout the 80-lap season opener.

Van Alst showed plenty of emotion in his frontstretch interview with FOX Sports 1 after the race.

“We gave it everything we got and it’s the only speedway car we got,” exclaimed Van Alst. “There’s no way I was going to bring it home without the steering wheel and the trophy and that was it.”

Jason White went on to finish ninth after leading 14 circuits throughout the event in his No. 44 Ford with sponsor Power Ventures Excavating. White, from Canada, scores his second ARCA Menards Series top 10 finish.

In 32 ARCA starts, Van Alst holds two top-five and 15 top-10 finishes.

“This is for all the short track racers out there that don’t think you can get to this level,” the emotional Daytona winner added. “I worked my ass off to get here and we did it!”

Connor Mosack started on the pole and led the most laps of the day in the No. 18 Toyota. Mosack, having four top-five finishes in his ARCA career, finishes runner-up in the event with team Joe Gibbs Racing.

Sean Corr, Lavar Scott, and Mandy Chick, took home top-five finishes. Scott, making his ARCA debut, along with Chick, both earned their first career top-five finishes.

Amber Balcaen, Jesse Love, Jack Wood, Jason White and Dale Quarterley rounded out the top 10.

Actor and race car driver Frankie Muniz made his ARCA debut on the 2.5-mile oval piloting the No. 30 Ford with Rette-Jones Racing. Muniz paced the lone practice session atop the board on Thursday before qualifying 16th for the BRANDT 200. Muniz ends the exciting and nervous weekend finishing 11th.

Eight cautions slowed the field along with an 18 minute and 51 second red flag period.

Ron Silk visited victory lane for the 18th time in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in the season opener on Saturday at New Smyrna Speedway. Piloting the No. 16 Blue Mountain Machine and Future Homes entry, Silk held off Justin Bonsignore and Matt Hirschman to earn the trophy.

Bonsignore fought Silk hard for the win, finishing 0.542 seconds behind the winner. The driver of the No. 51 entry leaves the track with 104 top-five and 139 top-10 finishes in the series.

Silk leaves the season-opener at the half-mile Florida track with 93 career top five and 144 top 10s.

Matt Hirschman made it a three-car battle for the lead late before settling for the third-place position. The Pennsylvania driver came into the opener as the reigning winner and pole sitter in the inaugural event one year ago. 

Anthony Sesely finished fourth in his series debut while pole starter Doug Coby rounded out the top five. Coby overcame adversity after being involved in a multi-car accident on lap 168 in turn two. It was the fifth time that the yellow flag slowed the field.

Jake Johnson, Dave Sapienza, Austin Beers, Anthony Nocella and Tommy Catalano rounded out the top 10.

The caution flag slowed the field five times throughout the 200-lap event.

The first was drawn on lap 18 involving Brian Robie and Ken Heagy. About five laps later after returning to green flag conditions, the No. 32 of Tyler Rypkema went around in turn three drawing the second yellow. Rypkema continued to finish 11th.

On lap 83 J.R. Bertuccio Jr. went around in turn two. The driver of the No. 2 finished 30th and 54 laps down as a result. Jake Johnson and Craig Lutz tangled to bring out the fourth yellow of the race on lap 157. Lutz went on to an 18th-place finish.

The ARCA Menards Series hit the track on Friday at Daytona International Speedway for day one of pre-season testing. William Sawalich led the first day of the two-day session with a time and speed of 49.155s / 183.094 mph after circling the 2.5-mile oval 66 times.

Andy Jankowiak sat behind Sawalich with a time of 49.621s / 182.700 mph with 34 total laps in the session. Jankowiak sat atop the leaderboard earlier in the day in his No. 73 KLAS Motorsports Ford.

Sitting third at the end of the day was Brayton Laster in the No. 38 Mullins Racing Chevrolet. Laster, from Greenwood, Indiana, posted a 49.362s / 182.326 mph in the session. 

Nick Sanchez (49.394s / 182.208 mph) and Jacob Perry (49.396s / 182.201 mph) rounded out the top five.

Frankie Muniz sat sixth fastest in the No. 30 Rette-Jones Racing Ford with a lap of 49.403s / 182.175 mph. Muniz, a television/film star known worldwide, will race a full-time slate for the organization in 2023.

Six drivers were invited to the annual ARCA test as part of the “Road to Daytona” program. 2022 NWMT champion Jon McKennedy, 2022 ARCA West champion Jake Drew and ARCA West driver Leland Honeyman all took laps in the day one session. McKennedy sat 34th while Honeyman was 40th quickest. Drew was 45th out of the 45 cars to post times. 

The series will be back testing on the high banks Saturday beginning at 10:00 am ET. and will run until 5:00 pm ET. ARCARacing.com will have live timing and scoring.

Sammy Smith scored the victory on Friday afternoon at Phoenix Raceway after an eventful day behind the wheel of his No. 18 Toyota. Smith, surviving two ARCA overtime attempts, started on the pole and led 49 of the 50 circuits until receiving a penalty for aggressive driving.

Following a restart, Taylor Gray momentarily took the lead from Smith while throwing an aggressive block as they went down the backstretch. The block was not successful as Smith made contact with Gray to send him around. ARCA then penalized Smith with aggressive driving and held the driver for one lap.

Gray was done for the day and finished 27th.

The winner led 75 of the 107 laps to win his 10th race across the ARCA Menards Series, ARCA East, and ARCA West divisions in 2022.

Jake Drew entered the day needing to take the green flag to claim the 2022 ARCA Menards Series West championship. Finishing 13th, Drew ended the championship season with nine top-five and 10 top-10 finishes with four victories.

Jesse Love fought hard to finish the day runner-up by 0.866 seconds. 

Andres Perez de Lara, Landon Pembelton, and Todd Souza rounded out the top five.

Taking home top 10s included Landen Lewis, Bradley Erickson, Parker Chase, Jake Finch, and Tanner Reif.

The event featured 10 cautions and had three leaders and four lead changes.

Corey LaJoie celebrated his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory on Thursday at Martinsville Speedway. LaJoie, piloting the No. 53 Curb Records machine, started fifth on the grid and took the lead from pole winner Matt Hirschman 32 laps into the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200. 

LaJoie went on to lead the next 102 circuits until a slow pit stop under the fifth yellow flag of the race. Jon McKennedy took the top spot and led the next 59 laps until LaJoie returned to the lead on a restart with eight laps left. 

“I came here for a clock”, LaJoie exclaimed in his post-race interview with FloRacing. “Really and truly as much fun as this was, we got mired back in traffic there on that pit stop, but just a great car.”

LaJoie later gave kudos to the drivers that run in the series on a week-to-week basis.

“These guys are the lifeblood of the sport. These guys drive down from the northeast and they do it for nothing. They do it because of their love for the sport”.

Jon McKennedy secured the 2022 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship on Thursday at Martinsville. McKennedy, from Chelmsford, MA, did not have a smooth drive on his way to his first Modified championship.

McKennedy led the field on a restart with eight laps remaining, with eventual race winner LaJoie in fourth. Everything was smooth until turn three when LaJoie tagged McKennedy which sent the 79 machine into Kyle Bonsignore. Despite sustaining damage from the incident, McKennedy finished 12th to earn the series title.

“It’s amazing!” McKennedy told FloRacing after the race. “This is so satisfying. It’s the whole team and that’s what got me here today. I just don’t know what to say as this is unbelievable. I’ve won multiple championships up north, and a handful of modified championships in other series, but being a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion is just awesome. I am so happy!”

LaJoie later apologized to McKennedy in his celebratory interview for the contact with McKennedy.

“I thought I screwed up his championship hopes there for a minute. He caught us up in the fence, but we’ll talk about that later. So kudos to Jon, kudos to Tommy Baldwin Racing for the owner's championship. These guys that run modifieds are real racers.”

McKennedy offered his view of the incident with LaJoie.

“I’m not going to lie getting wrecked there with a few to go was a huge bummer. We had a really good car as the guys gave me an awesome car. I thought we were in a great position. Middle of the back straightaway I felt a good bump and the next thing I know I was totally sideways and out of control. Not too sure what the car behind me (LaJoie) was thinking, but at the end of the day we are champions.”

Hirschman finishes second after nabbing the pole with a time of 18.733s / 101.084 mph. In seven starts this year, Hirshman scored two poles along with the season-opening victory in February at New Smyrna. 

Other championship contenders Eric Goodale, Ron Silk, and Justin Bonsgnore took home 7th, 11th, and 29th. 

NASCAR veteran racer Ryan Newman finished third.

Bobby Santos and Anthony Nocella rounded out the top five finishers.

Andrew Krause, Eric Goodale, Austin Beers, Tommy Catalano, and J.B. Fortin rounded out the top 10.

The delayed broadcast of the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200 will air November 1st at 1:00 p.m. ET. on USA.

The series returns to action for the 2023 season opener on February 11th at New Smyrna Speedway.

Piloting the No. 60 entry for owner Roy Hall, Matt Hirschman will start on the pole for Thursday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200 at Martinsville Speedway. Hirshman won the top starting spot for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season finale posting a time and speed of 18.733s / 101.083 mph.

Jimmy Blewett starts second in the No. 7 entry for owner Tommy Baldwin. Blewett sat 0.005 seconds behind the pole winner.

Ronnie Williams held the pole spot for a while during qualifying before falling to the third position. Williams posted a lap of 18.792s / 100.766 mph.

Ron Silk and Corey LaJoie rounded out the top five.

Starting inside the top 10 include Austin Beers, Kyle Bonsignore, Chuck Hossfeld, Jon McKennedy, and Ed McCarthy. 

NASCAR veteran racers Ryan Newman will start 14th while Bobby Labonte starts 23rd.

Ryan Preece will take the green in the 17th spot.

Four drivers of Jon McKennedy, Ron Silk, Justin Bonsignore, and Eric Goodale all have a shot of winning the series championship. McKennedy leads by six points over Silk while Bonsignore sits 11 behind the points leader. Goodale sits 17 points back. Each of the four will start 9th, 4th, 12th, and 15th on the grid. 

The season finale will take place later on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET. live on FloRacing and MRN Radio.

NASCAR announced penalties following its events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Cup and XFINITY Series on Tuesday. The penalties announced impacted the No. 18 and 45 Cup Series teams as well as the No. 51 and 54 XFINITY teams. 

Bubba Wallace has been suspended for one race for his incident with driver Kyle Larson early in the South Point 400 on Sunday. Wallace did not receive a monetary or points fine regarding his actions.

Crew chief of the No. 18 Toyota Ben Beshore and crew members Derrell Edwards and Miachel Hicks will receive a four-race suspension through The Clash at the LA Coliseum in 2023. The No. 18 Toyota lost a wheel after returning to the race track following a pit stop.

Crew chief of the No. 54 NXS team Chris Gayle has been fined $5,000 for lug nuts not properly installed. 

Crew chief Mark Setzer has been fined $25,000 and suspended from the next NXS event along with losing 40 driver and owner points. The No. 51 NXS team violated sections 14.4.B.E: Body Note: Flange Fit Composite Body must be used as supplied from the manufacturer without modification.

Andrew Abbott has been re-instated by NASCAR and is eligible to return to all NASCAR activity. Abbott was indefinitely suspended after an ordeal at Talladega Superspeedway during pre-race inspection for the Camping World Truck Series.

Sammy Smith scored the victory in the season finale for the ARCA Menards Series at Toledo Speedway on Saturday. Smith, piloting the No. 18 Toyota for NASCAR veteran racer Kyle Busch, scored his sixth victory of the season.

Jesse Love led the majority of the race up front before losing the top spot when he received a tap from Sammy Smith in a three-car battle for the lead with Grant Enfinger. Love, who showed some post-race displeasures to winner Sammy Smith, rebounded to finish runner-up.

With the win, Sammy Smith clinched the 2022 owner points title for owner Kyle Busch.

Grant Enfinger went on to finish third in his first ARCA start since 2018.

Taylor Gray and Rajah Caruth rounded out the top five.

Nick Sanchez claimed the 2022 ARCA Menards Series driver championship by placing sixth. Sanchez entered the event two points ahead of Daniel Dye and had to finish within three spots ahead of Dye before owner points became a factor.

Early on, Daniel Dye led the standings before issues slowed the team down. First, he had issues getting the car re-fired after the first race break. Then second, had a mechanical issue with a ball joint that sent the No. 43 team to the garage area for 36 laps before returning. Dye finished 18th.

Sanchez finishes the year with three victories, 10 top five, and 16 top 10 finishes.

The rest of the top 10 finishers included Landon Pembelton, Matthew Gould, Greg Van Alst, and Amber Balcean. 

The series heads into its offseason and will return next season on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway during Speedweeks in February 2023.
