Smithley Finishes 23rd In The Drive For The Cure 300

The No. 0 Meding’s Seafood / Iron Source team did not a let a little rain put a damper on their day at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Garrett Smithley came home 23rd in the Drive for the Cure 300.

With qualifying cancelled because of the persistent rain and mist, the field was set by the NASCAR Xfinity Series rule book, and Smithley started in 27th. The Drive for the Cure 300 was scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. (ET), but the weather pushed the start of the race past 8:30 p.m.

“It was an up and down night here in Charlotte,” Smithley said. “We really didn’t know what we were going to have tonight with all the rain and running a night race with the car set up for a day race, but we battled and ran in the top 20 for a good 10-15 laps. We put on a bad set of tires and lost some positions, but once we took those off I was able to get back up to 23rd. I’m proud of my JD Motorsports with Gary Keller team for all of their hard work tonight getting all three cars into the top 25.”

The Xfinity Series will take a week off before heading to Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery 300 on October 21st.
