Spencer Gallagher No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet Camaro Charlotte Recap

Spencer Gallagher and the No. 23 Allegiant crew started from the 20th-position at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the NASCAR XFINITY Series Hisense 4K TV 300.

Gallagher showed strength at the beginning of the event, breaking into the top-15 before reporting that he was experiencing loose chassis conditions and no grip in the rear which caused him to drop back into the field as far as the 27th position.

The team worked on Gallagher’s No. 23 Allegiant Chevrolet multiple times throughout the race but nothing seemed to help the loose-handling issue. Running in the 27th position, Gallagher spins bringing out the sixth caution of the day on lap 105. He came to pit road so the crew could change tires and to fix any damage, causing him to be placed a lap down and to start from the rear of the field. When the next caution occurred on lap 125, Gallagher was in the 28th spot, he was in the free pass position and gained his lap back.

Staying consistent in the 28th position, another caution occurred. Gallagher came to pit road for four tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment but had a pit road violation making him have to restart from the rear of the field. After a few laps after the restart, Gallagher radioed to crew chief Joey Cohen that something didn’t feel right with the car. Thinking that it was a loose tire Cohen called for a four-tire change and to check everything over. The crew diagnosed that the car had a brake caliper issue and declared it done for the day. Relegating Gallagher to finish in the 37th position, multiple laps down.

“We haven’t been able to catch a break lately. I was battling with loose conditions majority of the race and we couldn’t seem to fix the problems on pit road. Ending a race like we did is disappointing. Everyone worked so hard this weekend. I hope that next weekend in Dover we have some luck on our side.”
