Scott Lagasse Jr. Caught Up in Big One Twice at Talladega

 

“Our No. 24 Young Guns/Screen Your Machine Toyota was really good all day,” said Lagasse Jr.  “We had a car that was capable of winning and that is all you can ever ask for.  The guys on this JGL Racing team worked incredibly hard and unfortunately we got caught up in the mess which put an end to our day.  Everyone on this team deserved so much better as they are a great group to work with.  I want to give a special thanks to James Whitener (team owner) for giving me another opportunity to climb behind the wheel of this No. 24 Toyota.”

 

Scott’s Talladega adventure would start right away Saturday morning as he would hit debris on the race track during qualifying which caused significant damage requiring repairs and forcing the No. 24 Toyota to start the 300-mile event from the rear of the field.  In typical strong superspeedway fashion, Lagasse would charge through the field quickly and be sitting just outside the top-10 by lap 11.  With stage one nearing its lap 25 conclusion, the action intensified with disaster striking on lap 20 and Lagasse being a victim in a big wreck.  With significant damage to the left rear of the No. 24 Toyota, the JGL Racing crew would work quickly to make the necessary repairs.

 

With repairs completed in order to continue, the second stage of the race would commence with Lagasse Jr. down a lap to the field.  The damage to the No. 24 Toyota didn’t seem to hamper Scott very much as he charged through the field and was in position to get his lap back as the second stage drew near its conclusion.  However, disaster would strike for the second time as Lagasse Jr. was collected in yet another big wreck which would end the day for the No. 24 Toyota.

 

“The guys did a fantastic job in putting a band-aid on the No. 24 Toyota after that first wreck and we were going to be OK,” added Scott.  “I saw the second big wreck develop right in front of me and saw a hole and tried to shoot through it.  Unfortunately, a car came down the hill at the last second and collected me.  It was great to work with everyone at JGL Racing once again and I hope we get to do it again in the future.”

 

The JGL Racing team will enjoy a two week break before heading to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the running of the Hisense 300.  The 10th race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday May 27th and can be seen LIVE on FOX Sports 1 at 1:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
