Brandon Jones celebrates Month of the Military Child with paint scheme designed by son of Retired Marine Staff Sergeant

NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) driver Brandon Jones will race a special paint scheme on his No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing during this weekend’s event at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. The sophomore driver partnered with Hope For The Warriors to have a special red, white and blue paint scheme designed by five-year-old military child, Liam Harshman.  

 

Jones has a deep affinity and appreciation for the military and lists it among his top interests, along with youth initiatives. With April designated as the ‘Month of the Military Child’ by the U.S. Department of Defense, Jones decided to merge his two interests with the special paint scheme this weekend.

 

“I’m really looking forward to running the red, white and blue No. 33 Hope For The Warriors paint scheme that Liam [Harshman] designed for me,” said Jones. “I’ve always been passionate about the military and even considered a career in it before deciding to pursue racing. Hope For The Warriors is a great organization I’ve partnered with a lot throughout my career. Through them, I’ve been able to visit bases, get hands-on experiences and meet with service members across the country, so to work with them on having a service member’s child design a paint scheme for me to compete in is really cool. I’m excited to bring some attention to an area of the military that people may not always be thinking about.”

 

A joint effort between Jones, his Richard Childress Racing team and Hope For The Warriors, the group challenged a group of military children to create a design that depicted what it meant to them to be a military child, while using only the colors red, white and blue. Five-year-old Liam Harshman was selected as the contest’s winner. Harshman grew up aboard Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., where his father was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to his September 2014 retirement.

 

“Military children are our silent warriors, serving our country by supporting their parent’s military career, but their sacrifices are often overlooked,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of Hope For The Warriors. “Since our nation entered the War on Terror in 2001, it is estimated that 2 million military children have had at least one parent deploy. Over 900,000 military children have experienced one or both of their parents deploy multiple times. We are grateful to Brandon Jones and Richard Childress Racing for bringing awareness and recognition to these silent warriors through this contest and the paint scheme on the No. 33 Chevrolet this weekend.”

 

The NXS race will air live on FS1 at 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday, April 29. Radio coverage of the event will be provided by the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
