Chastain 31st at Bristol

A late-race blown tire left Ross Chastain with a 31st-place finish in Saturday’s Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The blown tire sent Chastain hard into the outside wall, crippling his No. 4 Chevrolet with only 30 laps left in the race.

Earlier in the race, Chastain was involved in an altercation with driver Jeremy Clements. After they made contact on the track, Clements approached Chastain while they were out of the cars during a red flag for rain, grabbing Chastain by the shoulders. They had an altercation, resulting in Clements visiting the infield medical center.

Both drivers were called to the NASCAR hauler after the race to discuss the incident.

“I felt like I had to defend myself,” Chastain said. “It was just a quick reaction. I can’t let people just grab me like that. We talked and shook hands. We’re good.”
