B.J. McLeod: Heading Back To Monster Mile With Good Thoughts

Charged up by a solid finish at Kentucky Speedway last weekend, B.J. McLeod and his B.J. McLeod Motorsports team head to Dover (Del.) International Speedway this weekend looking for a duplicate effort of their May performance.

With Batteries Plus Bulbs® continuing to sport their colors in Saturday afternoon’s Drive Sober 200, McLeod is upbeat about returning to short track racing at a track he says is one of his favorites.

“I can’t wait to get back to Dover this weekend,” said McLeod. “For me, it’s one of those places that your excited about going to – not only because it’s a cool race – but from a team’s perspective we’ve run well there.

“Collectively, we want nothing more than to go back there and do what we did a couple months ago.”

Looking back at his second Monster Mile start, McLeod’s No. 78 Ford Mustang started 30th but throughout the 120-lap race was able to quickly negotiate his way through the field to claim a season-best 19th place run.

Knowing that a lot of circumstances will have to play out in order for McLeod to match his performance from earlier this spring, the Wauchula, Florida native also knows that his team has a good baseline setup which will help when practice unloads Friday morning.

“I’m really confident in the setup we’re bringing this weekend at Dover,” added McLeod. “Our No. 78 Batteries Plus / Main Gate Ford Mustang should be pretty close when we unload. I know David (Ingram, crew chief) will have to adjust a little bit – because the car won’t be identical from May, but if we can get the car to have a good balance like we did – then I don’t think it’s off the table to maybe leave there with a top-15 run.

“Unlike earlier this year, we don’t have a heat race or anything like that – so we can just get after it in qualifying and then have 200 laps to get it done. I think the extra laps will play into our hands.”

McLeod, who will make his 71st career NASCAR national series start this weekend welcomes Josh Wise to the No. 15 Ford Mustang for Saturday afternoon’s race.

Wise, an experienced race car driver will make his team debut in a second car for B.J. McLeod Motorsports.

“We’re really looking forward to working with Josh this weekend,” sounded McLeod. “He is a very conservative race car driver, while also getting the best finish possible. I look forward to not only his insight, but also seeing him back in the XFINITY Series.”

Veteran industry crew chief George (David) Ingram Jr. will call the shots for the No. 78 Batteries Plus Bulbs Ford Mustang for the 28th race of the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series season.
