B.J. McLeod: Charged Up And Ready To Go At Kentucky Speedway

A boost from the return of Batteries Plus Bulbs® this weekend at Kentucky Speedway has B.J. McLeod and his B.J. McLeod Motorsports anxiously awaiting Saturday night’s  VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300.

Batteries Plus Bulbs® is the nation’s largest and fastest-growing battery, light bulb and smartphone/ tablet repair source with a nationwide network of stores.

With access to nearly 60,000 batteries, light bulbs and accessories, Batteries Plus Bulbs has the widest selection of products available and offers unmatched services to retail and business consumers.

Saturday night’s race is officially the first race in the inaugural XFINITY Series Chase and even though McLeod and his team didn’t make the cut this year, they’re in a chase themselves to elevate their on-track performance and stay inside the top-20 in the championship standings.

“I’m excited about getting to Kentucky this weekend,” said McLeod. “Of course, we’re stoked to have the support of Batteries Plus Bulbs® again and I want nothing more than to go and have a solid finish.”

In July’s XFINITY Series race at the 1.5-mile speedway, McLeod finished a respectable 23rd after starting 30th. Flash forward nearly two months later, the Wauchula, Florida native believes his team is capable of a duplicate or better performance with only seven races remaining this season.

“We learned a lot in July about Kentucky, added McLeod. “We had a new car and the asphalt surface was extremely new, but we raced the track and not the field and that paid off for us. We’ve learned a lot about our program since then. We went to Chicagoland last weekend with a new setup and it didn’t work like we had hoped – so we’ll go to Kentucky with an aggressive setup and see what happens.”

As the season draws near, McLeod is still focused on strong and steady race results for his growing team. The return of Batteries Plus Bulbs® is a huge confidence boost, one that McLeod wants to deliver with a satisfying result.

“The changes between our program from the start of the season is night and day,” he said. “We started this team slow and steady and as the season has been progressed we’ve been able to build it up. It’s taken a lot of hard work and endless nights to see the change on the race track, but now that we have a glimpse of it, it’s not something we’re willing to give up on.

“I hope this weekend at Kentucky is another step forward. This Chase is a big deal for the contenders, but for the regulars too. We want to run well and get a solid finish.”

McLeod, who will make his 70th career NASCAR national series start this weekend welcomes Blake Jones to the No. 15 Ford Mustang for Saturday night’s VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300. Jones, a former winner in the ARCA Racing Series at Talladega Superspeedway will make his XFINITY Series debut in a second car for B.J. McLeod Motorsports.

“I’m looking forward to working with Blake this weekend,” sounded McLeod. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about him and he is eager to get in the car and do his job and have a clean race. He knows Saturday night’s race is about getting as many laps as possible and taking the checkered flag. That’s actually good advice for the both of us.”

Joining Batteries Plus Bulbs this weekend is B.J.’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. The American Restaurant chain in Florence, Kentucky will serve as an associate marketing partner this weekend at Kentucky. Known for its diverse and popular menu, B.J.’s in Florence has the best craft and local beer selection in town combined with true Kentucky hospitality.

Race fans who have a ticket to this weekend’s XFINITY Series race can visit the Florence Mall location and show their Kentucky Speedway race ticket to receive 10 percent off their meal.

“From one B.J. to another, I’m thankful and appreciative of the support of B.J.’s Restaurant & Brewhouse wanting to be a part of the final racing weekend at Kentucky Speedway and more importantly our team,” he added. “We’re excited to host them and have some B.J.’s most popular dishes.”

Veteran industry crew chief George (David) Ingram Jr. will call the shots for the No. 78 Batteries Plus Bulbs Ford Mustang for the 27th race of the 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series season.
