Dakoda Armstrong Captures 18th Place Finish at Tricky Triangle

The NASCAR XFINITY Series presented a unique challenge to teams and drivers this week as the series made its first visit to Pocono Raceway.  With five previous starts at the 2.5-mile triangle shaped track in Camping World Truck Series and ARCA Racing action, Dakoda Armstrong looked to use that experience to his advantage.  In a rain shortened event, the New Castle, Indiana native would steer his No. 28 Toyota to an 18th-place finish in the running of the Pocono Green 250 at the track known as the “Tricky Triangle”.

“Man, I wish this race didn’t get shortened by rain,” said Armstrong.  “Our No. 28 Toyota was really strong after we got going for a few laps and I think we would have had a much better finish today if we could have gone back to racing.  We needed a long green flag run where our car came to life and was at its best.”

Dakoda would start the scheduled 100-lap event from the 22nd position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day.  With a competition caution coming at lap 15, Armstrong would report that his No. 28 Toyota was pretty good as it started off a little tight but freed up the longer he ran.  A few cautions provided the chance to come down pit road for minor adjustments.

As the race just passed the halfway mark, rain would descend upon Pocono Raceway halting the action.  While all efforts were made to dry the track, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate and the race was called after 53 of the scheduled 100 laps.  Armstrong and his JGL Racing team earned their fourth top-20 finish of the season.

“As a team we continue to work on improving and today we had a pretty good car,” added Dakoda.  “We should have had a better finish but we didn’t get the chance to get back to racing.  We need to take this good feeling of a having a solid car and carry it forward for the rest of the season.”

The 18th-place finish would keep Armstrong in the 16th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers’ standings – 32 points of the top-12.
