Stenhouse Jr. Dominates Indy Nationwide Race; Reclaims Series Points Lead

Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. left Lucas Oil Raceway with the Nationwide Series points lead in hand Saturday night. Stenhouse did all but win the race as well; starting from the pole and leading a staggering 189 of 200 laps. However, after a series of late cautions caught the field up to the sophomore sensation,  Stenhouse was run up the wall late by the eventual race winner Brad Keselowski. He was unable to recover losing the lead on lap 198 of 204, and eventually finishing third. He was initially awarded second, but placed back to third after further review.

“It was a really strong effort by this entire No. 6 Blackwell Angus team,” said Stenhouse after the race. “We were able to start on the pole and our car was pretty fast, but you couldn’t say it was dominant since we didn’t win the race.”

The race looked like it was going to come down to the ultimate RickyvsTrevor challenge, with the youthful duo running one-two late in the race. However, Bayne fell out of the race with mechanical issues with just 12 laps remaining, finishing 28th.

Carl Edwards, who led four laps in the race after starting third, finished fifth in the event.

The pole was Roush Fenway’s third NNS pole at LOR and its fifth overall. It is Stenhouse’s third pole of the season and his fourth career NASCAR pole.
