Earnhardt road races to 21st

Jeffrey Earnhardt gained nine positions and rolled home to a 21st-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s Zippo 200 at the Glen Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen International.

While the team failed to crack the top 20, Earnhardt ran a good race, running as high as 16th and finishing as the first car a lap down to the leaders. He started 30th.

“I’m still pretty young at road-course racing, so this was a pretty good day for us,” Earnhardt said. “Of course, we’d have liked a higher finish, but the car ran well and we brought it home in one piece.”

Earnhardt raced with the sponsorship of the Great Outdoors RV Superstore.

The finish kept Earnhardt in 18th place in Nationwide driver points.

Marcos Ambrose won the race, and Chase Elliott kept the series point lead.

The series moves on to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for an Aug. 16 race, the third road-course event of the season.
