Engines failure sidelines Earnhardt

A sour engine spoiled Jeffrey Earnhardt’s shot at scoring a big finish in Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 Nationwide Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Earnhardt parked his Chevrolet with engine failure 53 laps into the 100-lap race. He finished 35th.

“We didn’t really get to show what we had,” said Earnhardt, who drove the Dixie Chopper Chevrolet for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller. “I was hoping to get the full race in, but we’ll give it a better shot next time.”

Earnhardt, still wrestling an injured shoulder, drove the full 53 laps. He remains in 18th in Nationwide driver points.

Rookie Ty Dillon won the race, scoring his first Nationwide victory. Chase Elliott is No. 1 in points.
