Rough Outing at Daytona for Ross Chastain

The Subway Firecracker 250 was a race to forget for Ross Chastain and the Viva Motorsports team.  After a rainstorm during qualifying caused a multi-car pileup and fatal damage to the No. 55 Watermelon.org machine, the team had to hustle to prepare the backup racecar for the night’s event.  The secondary Chevy Camaro passed final inspection just in time for Chastain to strap in and take the green flag.  Unfortunately, the switch to a backup relegated the Watermelon car to a starting position in the back of the pack.  Chastain struggled to hold on to the back of the drafting pack and lost a lap to the leaders.  Although car showed speed later in the race, the early deficit couldn’t be overcome and the No. 55 car crossed the finish line in 29th place.

“It wasn’t the weekend we wanted but I’d like to thank the National Watermelon Association and Helena Chemical Company for giving me this opportunity” said Ross Chastain. “Looking forward to putting this behind us and moving on to the next race.”
