Hornish fastest in only practice at Road America

Sam Hornish Jr. posted the fastest time during the only NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) practice at Road America.

Hornish showed no signs of slowing down after posting a second-place finish in last weekend’s NNS race at Michigan.

The Ohio native led most of the session before posting a speed of 108.109 mph.

Brian Scott was second and is still searching for his first career NNS win. The No. 22 of Alex Tagliani was third and the team currently sits 59 points behind the JGR No. 54 team in the owner standings.

Points leader Regan Smith and Brendan Gaughan rounded out the top five.  Gaughan’s rookie teammate Ty Dillon was sixth fastest and had some additional track time in a Trans-Am car.  Dillon will run the Trans-Am race after the NNS race on Saturday.

Justin Marks, 2013 ARCA Road America winner Chris Buescher, Dylan Kwasniewski and Elliott Sadler finished out the Top 10.

The practice was delayed for a while because of rain as NASCAR didn’t see any reason to run in the rain since the drivers will run on a dry track tomorrow.

Qualifying is up next at 11:30 a.m. ET and will be televised live on ESPN2.
