Ryan Reed Shares his Story in Most Recent “Race Around America” Webisode

When Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Reed was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, he was told he would never race again.  In the latest webisodeof Walgreens’ “Race Around America” Reed tells the story of how he was able to overcome those odds and continue to pursue his passion of becoming a professional race car driver.

In the webisode, Reed stops by the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital and visits with children, to share his message in the hopes of teaching children they do not have to be defined by a medical condition, and that it is possible to continue chasing their dreams.

The webisode also features Reed’s personal “pit crew” which includes his family, doctors, the Walgreens team, and his partners in the Drive to Stop DiabetesSM, the American Diabetes Association and Lilly Diabetes.  Reed credits this pit crew with helping him manage his diabetes while on the road competing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS).

The next “Race Around America” Road Trip also features Reed, the driver of the No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop Diabetes presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang.  The NNS rookie of the year contender will travel from Indianapolis to Iowa in the Balance® Financial Mustang.  Fans are able to vote on the route as well as what upgrade the Mustang will receive.  At the end of the season, one lucky fan will receive the fully loaded ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang.
