Buescher Highest Finishing Rookie Contender at Charlotte Finishing Ninth

Chris Buescher headed to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the second time in his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) career. After starting the day in the 13th-position the Roush Fenway Racing driver dealt with a No.60 Roush Performance Parts  Ford Mustang that was loose to start and then tightened up as the race progressed. After being  shuffled back to 17thafter the first pit stop of the day his car began to gradually gain speed and drove into the top-15 before cracking the top-ten after staying out under yellow at lap 86. Buescher held his ground for the remainder of the History 300, finishing in the ninth spot when the checkered waved.

“Our Roush Performance Mustang was really good,” said Buescher. “I’m proud of these guys.  We’re working on it slowly.  They said this place would be tough in the day and, sure enough, it was slick but we were able to move around a little bit and find some more speed, but I keep telling everyone that I’m proud of these guys.  They’re working hard trying to make up for that hole we dug ourselves in early and we’re coming back pretty good, so we’re gonna get there.”

After hitting the wall early during his first NNS appearance at Charlotte Motor Speedway last season, Buescher was determined to redeem himself the second time around. The Prosper, TX native started the day in 13th after narrowly missing the third qualifying session.

Buescher ran solidly inside the top-15 until a caution came out on the first caution of the day at lap 23, after which he would fall back to 17th. The No.60 crew worked to correct a loose-handling race car and Buescher steadily made his way back up the field, sitting in the 15th-spot when he came back down pit road during a green flag run on lap 79.

The second yellow of the day came out quickly afterwards on lap 86 and crew chief Scott Graves opted to stay out which bumped Buescher into the eighth-position. Both Buescher and his team worked hard for the rest of the afternoon making  the RFR driver the top finishing Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender, with a ninth place finish.
