Cassill rolls into home territory

Landon Cassill is on a roll in the Nationwide Series, and what better time to go “home” than during a streak of fine runs.

Cassill, who is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will race at his “home” track – Iowa Speedway – for the first time in Sunday’s Get To Know Newton 250 at the .875-mile speedway.

Over the past three Nationwide races, Cassill has finishes of 12th, 13th and eighth, runs that have lifted him to 12th place in the series driver standings.

“We’ve been running well lately, and I’m looking forward to going home to Iowa and seeing what this track is all about,” said Cassill, who’ll be racing the G&K Services Chevrolet Sunday. “All the drivers who’ve been there seem to love it, and the fans really turn out there. It should be a great weekend.”

For Cassill, it also will be a busy one. He also plans to drive in Friday night’s Sprint Showdown at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Showdown is a qualifying race for Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race for Sprint Cup drivers.

Nationwide drivers will have plenty of time to adjust themselves to the Iowa track. Three practice sessions are scheduled Friday – at 10 a.m. (ET), 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Another practice is set Saturday (12:30 p.m.) before qualifying at 7:10 p.m. The race is scheduled for a green flag at 2 p.m. Sunday.
