The No. 54 Monster Energy team maintains strong momentum going into week six of the season at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) in Fort Worth, where the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) stable is the defending race winner. Under the lights this Friday at TMS, the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series team is eager to tackle another 1.5-mile venue, one where crew chief Adam Stevens earned his first victory with driver Kyle Busch last spring after the Monster Energy group started from a second-place qualifying position and led the field five times over 91 laps before taking the checkered flag.

The 2013 spring night race in the Lone-Star State facility had its challenges for the JGR group and their veteran driver. Tire strategy and changing car conditions kept Busch and Stevens on their toes. Brad Keselowski and now JGR teammate Sam Hornish Jr. proved to be the No. 54 team’s strongest competitors, but in the end, Busch and his JGR team prevailed.

Needless to say, Busch is extremely comfortable maneuvering the Texas track and has proven his skills to be dominant. Busch’s performance in Texas has yielded him the No. 1 spot in most statistical categories at this facility. In 2014 already, with two recent Nationwide Series wins, a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory and a strong performance last weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, the Monster Energy athlete also strengthened his personal career statistics, bringing his total laps led to 28,028–third on the all-time career NASCAR list to Cale Yarborough (31,556) and Richard Petty (51,380), between the years of 1949 and 2014.

The last race at Texas in November, 2013, for the Monster Energy Nationwide Series team, had a disappointing finish when a right-rear tire malfunction caused the black Camry to hit the turn four wall. The damage was too much to allow the Camry to remain a competitive race car and their sixth-place starting position turned into a reluctant 26th-place result. So this week count on the JGR “men in black” to work towards a return to victory lane to adorn those famous hats from Texas Motor Speedway.
