Homestead-Miami Speedway and the United States Coast Guard Seventh District Regional MWR Office located in Base Miami Beach will welcomeChase for The NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifier Matt Kenseth to South Florida for a series of activities on Tuesday (September 11).

Kenseth will arrive at the Miami Beach base at approximately 11:15 a.m. on the 11th.  He will go out to sea aboard the United States Coast Guard Cutter Diamondback.  While in the open water, Kenseth will drive the cutter, lead maneuvers, including a man overboard simulation utilizing a stern launch with a 33-foot “small boat” that the USCG uses for search & rescue and pursuit.  Kenseth will also have lunch with crew members, participate in a Q&A session and tour the facility.

He is the driver of the No. 17 Best Buy Ford, and currently sits third in points, trailing only Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Kenseth, the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, has one win in 2012 to go along with 15 top-10 finishes in 25 races this year.

The appearance is part of NASCAR’s Chase Across America, previewing the Chase for The NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCAR’s equivalent of the playoffs, which culminates with the season-ending championship race – the Ford EcoBoost 400 – on November 18 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Kenseth’s activities will be shown on an upcoming episode of the Weather Channel’s “Coast Guard Florida,” which is currently in production at Coast Guard Miami Beach.  Additionally, NASCAR Media Group will be on hand capturing video for use on various NASCAR television shows across several networks.
