Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber announced today that San Francisco Giants Pitcher Sergio Romo will be the Grand Marshal for the Toyota 120 NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series race on Friday, March 1.
“It is an honor to serve as Grand Marshal and have the opportunity to celebrate my Mexican heritage,” said Romo. “This month I not only get to pay tribute to Mexico through NASCAR but also by playing for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.
Mexican-American Romo set a career high in the number of innings played and games saved for the 2012 World Championship San Francisco Giants. As a closer for the Giants, Romo recorded three saves during the 2012 World Series, helping the Giants win their second title in three years.
The NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series will kick off its 10th season over all and seventh under the NASCAR banner at Phoenix International Raceway on March 1, 2013 followed by 14 races at eight different tracks throughout Mexico.
