NASCAR, Dover International Speedway to honor Aurora Colin during Hispanic Heritage Month

NASCAR has partnered with Dover International Speedway to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) and recognize the work of Aurora Colin, one of the founders of the Hispanic American Association of Delaware (HAAD), for her many contributions to the Hispanic community of Delaware.

Colin studied dance at the Escuela Bellas Artes (School of Fine Arts) in Mexico City, performed throughout Mexico, and also worked as a school teacher before moving to Delaware 19 years ago with her husband and son.

In 2014, Colin and Teresa Ayala founded Ballet Folklórico Mexico Lindo to promote Latino artistic expression. Colin also leads HAAD’s Arts & Culture Committee. Colin offers free dance lessons twice a week and the ballet group averages about 30 performances per year at schools, festivals, churches and nursing homes. The dance group received the Delaware Hispanic Award in 2016 and 2018. Colin’s work has been featured in magazines such as Delaware Today and Delaware Hispano.

Colin will be honored before the “Gander Outdoors 400” Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 7, where she will receive a donation of $2,500 to help further her efforts in supporting the local community.

“We’re proud to partner with NASCAR to celebrate and recognize Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Mike Tatoian, president and CEO of Dover International Speedway. “Aurora Colin’s life story serves as an inspiration and example to many people and her efforts are impacting hundreds of people throughout the state.”

The Oct. 5-7 NASCAR tripleheader weekend at Dover International Speedway also includes the “Bar Harbor 200” presented by Sea Watch International NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race on Saturday, Oct. 6 and the “Crosley 125” NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Friday, Oct. 5.
