Racing and Demo Derby Saturday afternoon at Mahoning Valley Speedway; Dirt Mods running 40-laps/$700 to win

Mahoning Valley Speedway presented by Lehighton Ford concluded its regular point season last Saturday evening with some dramatic and thrilling races that crowned the 2018 division champions.

Now the popular paved ¼-mile Lehighton oval turns attention to the post season beginning this Saturday, September 29 with a varied line-up of on and off track action. Dirt Mods, Small Car Enduro, Jr. Enduro and Vintage TQ Midgets will be running features while a Small Car Demo Derby will be held in the infield.

The Dirt Mods are running in a 40-lap/$700-to-win feature race. The race is open to all Dirt Modifieds including those with sail panels. Drivers will draw for heat starting spots and then a redraw will take place for the feature.

Much thanks to Mike and Cindy Warden for bolstering the winner’s share by $100!

The Vintage Division of the ATQMRA will be part of the program as they will contest in separate class heats and a combined feature. The Vintage ATQMRA Organization was formed to preserve the history of three quarter midget racing and is anticipating a respectable group of cars.

The Small Car Enduro will be a timed event paying a guaranteed minimum $600 to win, $300 for 2nd, $200 for third, $150 to fourth and $100 for fifth. Dependent upon the number of entrants that prize money can increase.

There has been much interest in this race as pre-entries have steadily poured in. The cost is $50 per car and $6 for transponder. Enduro rules can be found on the website.

The Jr. Enduro will be the undercard to the regular Enduro. The cars will run under the same rules as the current Small Car Enduro and most Hobby Stock cars are permissible to compete.

Racers must be between the ages of 12-18. A driver who has more than a year of racing experience in a stock car is not eligible to race with the Jr. Enduros. While a driver of the Jr. Enduro can race on their own, they do have the option to have a passenger seat and an experienced tutor ride along for guidance.

Since Avery Arthofer raced to the inaugural Jr. Enduro victory in 2016, the class has turned out several up and comers. Arthofer went on to become a front runner and 4-time winner with the Hobby Stocks. This year she raced in the Sportsman Modifieds and won there as well. She also ran a handful of Late Model features.

Austin Beers claimed his career first win in the Jr. Enduros and then moved to the Hobby Stocks where he won the 2017 championship. He advanced to the Sportsman Mods this year and won 4 times and the title.

The Small Car Demo is for “Stock” demo cars. The event will reward a guaranteed minimum of $500, to win, $300 for second and $100 for third. Demo rules will follow that of the West End Fair. The cost to enter the Demo Derby is $25 per car which includes the driver.

There will not be a Big Car Demo.

Gates open at 11:00. Racing starts at 2:00 pm. Grandstands, which open at 12:30, is $10 (no discounts). The pits are $25 per person.
