Martinsville Speedway Toy Drive Canceled Due to Snow

The annual Christmas Toy Drive at Martinsville Speedway has been canceled due to weather. Snowfall in the area forced Speedway President Clay Campbell to call the event off for the first time in the event’s 23 year history.

Despite the weather, the Toy Drive, which benefits Grace Network of Martinsville and Henry County, can still be considered a success, due to corporate donations made earlier in the week.

“This isn’t something we wanted to do, but mother nature forced our hand,” Campbell said. “However, thanks to the generosity of organizations like Appalachian Power, Starling Avenue Baptist Church, Bassett Furniture and the Martinsville City Police Department there will still be many kids in our area that are able to open a toy on Christmas morning.”

People will be able to stop by the track Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next week and in exchange for a $10 donation or a new, unwrapped toy be able to drive their personal cars on the track for five laps. 

In addition, Pastor’s on the Move is sponsoring a toy pickup for underprivileged and underserved children on Monday, where parents can come by the Speedway Ticket Office and pick out toys for their children, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
