Titles On The Line In South Boston Speedway Regular Season Finale

After a spring and summer of hard, exciting racing it all comes down to this: championship night at South Boston Speedway Saturday night.

Saturday night’s GCR presents Spaulding Equipment PASS 150 will see champions crowned in each of South Boston’s four divisions along with a 150-lap event for the touring PASS Southern Super Late Model Series.

With three wins and a slew of top-five finishes, Peyton Sellers is poised to claim his third South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock championship. The former NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion heads into the season-finale with an insurmountable 508-434 points lead over Bobby McCarty. McCarty has four wins in 2017 but has not enjoyed the consistency of Sellers.

There is a barn-burner of a battle for the Limited Sportsman championship headed into Saturday’s season-ending 50-lapper. David Latour Jr. enters the race as the points leader, but has just a four-point lead over Colin Garrett. Trey Crews is only six points back. Latour has posted two wins on the season while Garrett has four and Crews three.
Johnny Layne has a solid, but not insurmountable 24-point lead over Harrison Walker in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. If Layne wins the title he will be South Boston’s only repeat champion from 2016.

Kevin Currin has used consistency to carry a 14-point, 376-362 lead over Tyler Crute into the Budweiser Hornets Division finale Saturday night.

The 150-lap PASS Southern Super Late Model Series race was rescheduled from a rainout earlier in the season.
Matt Craig is the driver to beat in the race for the powerful super late models. He is the tour’s points leader and has four wins on the season.

The evening of race will include the 150-lap race for the PASS Southern Super Late Models, a 100-lap Late Model race, a 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stocks and a 15-lap race for the Budweiser Hornets.

Qualifying will start at 5 p.m. Saturday night with the green flag falling on the first race at 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children seven to 12 and children six and under admitted free. Tickets for the rained-out August 12 PASS Super Late Model race will be honored.
