Richard Petty Joins Pro-Celebrity Team for Rally in the Alley Pro-Celebrity Bowling Event on Thursday, September 7

“The King” Richard Petty is bringing his bowling ball and shoes to Richmond Raceway in pursuit of another record victory as the final celebrity participant named for Rally in the Alley, a pro-celebrity bowling tournament. The Barton Malow Foundation, Richmond Flying Squirrels Charities, and Richmond Raceway Cares have once again partnered for the third annual event to support RVA Field of Dreams Fest. The event will be held in Richmond Raceway’s historic Old Dominion Building at the Richmond Raceway Complex on September 7 at 6 p.m.

“The King” holds the track record of victories with 13 – including a record of seven consecutive – race wins at Richmond between 1970 and 1973. Petty owns many NASCAR Cup Series records including 200 career victories, seven Daytona 500 wins, and 27 victories in the 1967 season. He is also tied with Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson for a record seven NASCAR Cup Series championships.

Petty joins previously announced Rally in the Alley pro-celebrities including: Aric Almirola, driver of the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43; Brad Keselowski, driver of the Team Penske No. 2; Ricky Stenhouse Jr., driver of the Roush Fenway Racing No. 17; Mike Rhoades, head basketball coach at Virginia Commonwealth University; Chris Mooney, head basketball coach at the University of Richmond; Andrew Freiden, meteorologist of NBC12 Richmond; and Steve Kline, former 12-year Major League Baseball pitcher and current Richmond Flying Squirrels pitching coach.

Rally in the Alley will comprise of four teams facing off in one round of traditional 10-pin bowling to see if they have what it takes to get to the finals. Proceeds from Rally in the Alley will go to the initiative of “Renovating Richmond’s Recreation.” The Barton Malow Foundation, Flying Squirrels Charities, and Richmond Raceway Cares partnered three years ago in an effort to revitalize Richmond’s inner-city youth baseball facilities. Through this partnership, the three organizations have built new dugouts for Blackwell and Bellemeade Fields. Blackwell Field also received a new infield. RVA Field of Dreams Fest has hopes for future projects at ten local Richmond fields.

Rally in the Alley wraps up a week of bowling as the Smithfield Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour Championship concludes with the finals on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Richmond. QubicaAMF, whose U.S. headquarters are in Richmond, has built four state-of-the-art lanes inside the Old Dominion Building at the Richmond Raceway Complex for the event. QubicaAMF is the world’s largest manufacturer of bowling products. The Smithfield PWBA Tour Championship will be televised live on CBS Sports Network on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m.

Richmond Raceway hosts NASCAR for two nights of racing “under the lights” on September 8-9. The fall race weekend, presented by Who’s Your Driver, will see history on display as Dale Earnhardt Jr. makes his final, career, two-race appearance as a driver.

The weekend gets started on Friday, Sept. 8, with on-track practice for both series and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Pole Qualifying for both weekend races. The action then dials up as the rising stars of tomorrow compete in the Virginia529 College Savings 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m., the sport’s best take to the track for the Federated Auto Parts 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race as NASCAR crowns 2017 Regular Season Champion.
