A past winner of the Monster Energy All-Star Race shook down Goodyear’s green-walled, faster “Option” tires on Thursday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as 1996 event winner Michael Waltrip tested the tires drivers can use one set of during Saturday night’s $1 million dash for All-Star cash.
“Drivers are going to love these ‘Option’ tires,” Waltrip said after his test run around Charlotte’s iconic 1.5-mile superspeedway. “When I was going over the bumps in the regular, ‘Prime’ tires, the car would want to step out on me. I felt a lot more grip with the ‘Option’ tire, so I’m excited to see how hard the drivers will push on Saturday night as soon as the ‘Options’ go on their cars.”
Drivers who use the faster “Option” tires in the final 10-lap segment of Saturday night’s race must start behind drivers who use the regular tire compound. Saturday night’s Monster Energy All-Star Race goes green at approximately 8:15 p.m.
