Motorcycle World Record Longest Jump Attempt Cancelled at TSS

The planned Guinness World Record attempt for the longest motorcycle jump is cancelled due to Monster Energy sponsored athlete Alex Harvill sustaining a foot injury during a practice jump. Details about a future jump to follow.

“Alex Harvill is a tough competitor and will bounce back strong. A Guinness World Record is a huge challenge,” says Mitch Covington, Vice President of Sports Marketing, Monster Energy. “We expect that he will be back riding soon and look forward to his next attempt at the record.”

“I want to thank everyone for the support in making my dream come true and for being so concerned about my mishap,” says Harvill. “I can’t wait to get back on the bike and break the record for Monster and all my fans.”

“Alex is a talented, fine young man. He’ll make a speedy recovery,” says Grant Lynch, Chairman of Talladega Superspeedway.

The planned jump was scheduled for Sunday, May 7, just moments before the start of Talladega Superspeedway’s GEICO 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, which gets the green flag at 1 p.m. CDT. Brad Keselowski is the race’s defending champion.

The GEICO 500 will be the anchor event of a much-anticipated tripleheader weekend, which will also feature the General Tire 200 for the ARCA Racing Series on Friday, May 5, as well as the Saturday, May 6, Sparks Energy 300 for the NASCAR XFINITY Series where Elliott Sadler will try for his third win in the last four races.
