While the championship 1.5-mile oval at Homestead-Miami Speedway is relatively quiet this weekend there is plenty of action taking place at the adjacent karting track. Homestead-Miami Speedway’s Homestead Karting track opens up the 2016 season with the Florida Winter Tour ROK Cup this weekend, starting Friday and concluding on Sunday.
The event features several of the nation’s top teams and drivers. Several pro drivers are also participating, most notably former Formula One standouts Rubens Barrichello and Nelson Piquet Junior, two of more than 150 competitors in six different divisions.
The Sofina Foods Florida Winter Tour Presented by Fikse Wheels is one of karting’s oldest and longest continuously running racing programs. From its humble beginnings in the winter of 1999, “The FWT” has grown into one of the world’s longest, geographically diverse, competitive and prestigious sprint kart racing programs.
As one of the premier karting series in not only North America, but also the world, the Florida Winter Tour ROK Cup USA Weekend includes teams and competitors racing in the series utilizing only one engine brand per weekend.
The action begins today and continues through Sunday, Jan. 17. Racing starts at approximately 7:30 am each day and runs throughout the course of the day. The Florida Winter Tour will continue its 2016 season opener next weekend, Jan. 22-24, with the Rotax Weekend, also at the Homestead Karting track.
