Race Teams Built Around Helping Aspiring Professional Drivers at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series

The immense popularity of U.S. Legend Car racing, headquartered in nearby Harrisburg, N.C. has led former mechanics and drivers to create small businesses aimed at assisting inspiring professional drivers at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series. Full-service racing operations such as Farbo Motorsports, Devo Motorsports, 860 Racing, Dennis Lambert Racing, Chase Pistone Inc., among others, offer a range of services to those drivers who want to start racing Legend Cars.

From complete Legend Car set-up, repair and transportation, to driver development and media relations support, local business owners in the heart of motorsports have chosen Legend Cars as the focus of their profession.

From the Carolinas to California and Canada to Florida, customers from all over North America have flocked to Charlotte to work with the best full-service racing operations in the United States.

“It is a turnkey business,” said Ryan Farbo of Farbo Motorsports. “People use the term ‘arrive and drive;’ with the services that we provide, you can just show up with your helmet and everything else will be taken care of.”

Farbo, who previously worked as a brake line mechanic at Hendrick Motorsports with Jimmie Johnson, found that providing a full-service racing operation for drivers was not only a profitable niche, but is also rewarding to be a part of the lives of future racing stars.

“It is awesome to be a part of the next upcoming star that could possibly be racing on Sundays,” Farbo said. “It is a pretty cool deal to say that you were a part of that and had a little bit of influence into their career.”

Farbo’s newest racing client, Olympic Gold Medalist Tyler Clary, who wants become a professional race car driver once his swimming career is over, has been racing at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout with Farbo for two successful weeks.

“Through my experience with Hendrick and Jimmie’s relationship with Tyler, it just seemed like a good fit for him to race Legend Cars with Farbo Motorsports,” Farbo said.

Keith Devo, of Devo Motorsports has been assisting Legend Car drivers since the inception of the Legend Car racing in 1993. Devo, an experienced mechanic, got his start in the business by helping drivers Jim France, now the executive vice president of NASCAR, and renowned Legends Car engine builder G.E. Chapman dominate the competition back when local Legend Cars were racing on the then unpaved one-fifth-mile track at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“As we raced and were successful, other drivers were asking us to work on their cars,” Devo said. “I didn’t really start out to do it as a business in the beginning, but as people asked us to work on their cars more and more, then over the years it turned into a business because people that we helped were successful on the track.”

Much like Farbo and Devo, CJ D’Addario of 860 Racing and Dennis Lambert of Dennis Lambert Racing have diligently been providing services to drivers young and old hoping to achieve their dreams at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series.

“We build new cars, haul cars to the race track, really anything that involves making the Legend Car go around the race track,” said D’Addario, who in 2009, helped Kenzie Ruston become the first female to win a Legend Car national championship. “It really depends on what the person wants to do, how much they want to race and how much they want to work on the car.”

Lambert, who provides Legend Car services for JR Motorsports signee William Byron, among others at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout, has been working tirelessly to provide the finest quality parts for Legend Car drivers.

“Legend Cars are special because you can work on one car yourself you do not need a team of guys like they do in NASCAR—it is kind of more simplified,” Lambert said. “Plus, this is Charlotte Motor Speedway. You are getting to race and pit in the same places as Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.”
