Caleb Armstrong joins ESR for Lucas Oil 200

USAC Midget standout, Caleb

Armstrong, 20, will join Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) for the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) Racing Series’ season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Saturday, February 16, 2013.  The race will mark Armstrong’s first start at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway, and just his second-career ARCA Racing Series event.  Despite being new to the superspeedway, Armstrong posted the fastest lap-averaging 184.192 mph-during the three-day test session at the track last month.

“I am very excited to join Eddie Sharp Racing,” stated Armstrong.  “They are a top-level team with a winning track record in both ARCA and the Truck Series, so it’s a great place for me to be for the next step in my career.”

Armstrong raced through the midget and sprint car ranks en route to his stock car career.  Winning his first championship at the age of six, the New Castle, Ind. native has won countless races and championships in the USAC Kenyon Midgets, Micro Sprints and national USAC Midget races.  Armstrong made his ARCA Racing Series debut in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in September 2012 where he finished 15th.

“We’re very excited to have a driver of Caleb’s talent join our team at Daytona International Speedway,” commented team owner Eddie Sharp.  “For only being 20 years old, he has a very impressive resume and clearly a lot of talent behind the wheel.  He showed a lot of speed during the ARCA [Racing Series] test in Daytona last month, and we’re excited to have him in one of our cars for the season opener.”

A proven contender in the ARCA Racing Series, Sharp joined forces with driver Justin Lofton to win the 2009 series championship. ESR has proven to be a top team for developing young talent for NASCAR competition.  Drivers like Justin Lofton, Michael McDowell, Scott Speed and Nelson Piquet Jr. have all piloted ESR entries in the ARCA Racing Series and have found success in the form of championships, rookie of the year titles and race wins.

The Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real will air live on SPEED.  Tune in at 4:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, February 16, for all the action live from Daytona International Speedway.
