Tempers Flare as Bubba Wallace Quits the Nascar Virtual Race

Wednesday, Apr 15

Bubba Wallace has stated that life in quarantine is rough and that this could have contributed to his outburst. William Byron won the iRacing event on Saturday. It was held at a virtual speedway and the drivers would have actually raced here before the coronavirus pandemic hit. Ever since then, sports have been shut down and the entertainment industry has plummeted. Online casino sites are still up and running, but a lot of land-based casinos have been forced to shut down. People are stuck inside and that is one of the many reasons why fans were excited for this race. The problem is that Bubba Wallace chose to rage quit the race after he had an incident with Cling Bowyer. Fans ripped him on Twitter and they laughed at how seriously some people take iRacing.

The Race

Jimmie Johnson, who is a seven-time champion fired his spotter around 20 laps into the race and this was after he was told that he was clear of another car. The problem is that he wasn’t, and then crashed. Erik Jones had internet issues and this caused him to miss out on qualifying. Daniel Suarez was also parked for the second week in a row but was joined by Kyle Larson. The two tangled on the track and it was an exciting moment for fans to see.

Suarez Wasn’t Happy

Suarez was not happy to say the least. He complained that Larson should have actually been disqualified and that he was also frustrated at the incident as well. He has stated that this pushed him too far and that it was a life-changing incident. The team and drivers are doing everything they can to keep the sport moving but the revenue has frozen. Landon Cassill has signed a sponsorship for his iRacing platform and he also had the sponsor’s logos featured on him as he raced as well. The series has been a saviour for the industry and IndyCar have also launched a series one week after Nascar as well. The two televised events happen to set records and more than one million people watched it last week too. This was when Fox made the race available to watch for affiliates and it also aired nationally on the cable channel as well. Rita Wilson who, along with her husband, sang the National Anthem from her home in California. She and her husband, Tom Hanks have both recovered from the virus. Rob Gronkowski and even Mojo Rawley also gave the command for the drivers to start their engines. This was done from Wrestlemania, and it was an exciting event to say the least.

This just goes to show that although the times are changing right now, more needs to be done to try and make sure that sports are able to continue. After all, sports can boost morale and they also keep the country uplifted during times of need. This needs to be done in a safe manner however, to ensure the protection of those involved.
