Brad Allen could be managing a gold mine otherwise known as Ace Speedway. The 4/10-mile asphalt oval located in Altamahaw, NC is entering its third year as an ASA Member Track and is home of the 2011 ASA Member Track National Champion.
Allen is also entering his third season as the General Manager. Under his supervision, Ace Speedway has seen growth not only in the stands but also in the pits as well.
The past two Late Model division Champions were also contenders for the ASA Member Track National Championship. Barry Beggarly won the national title in 2011 and Dustin Rumley came within 0.0028 of winning the crown in 2010. What is interesting is that Beggarly is in his 60’s and Rumley is in his early 20’s, which highlights what is well known in short track racing, multi-generations competing at one track.
With this record going into the 2012 season, Brad Allen is confident that his top division will be fun to watch. “We will have a field that will rival any other in short track racing,” Allen exclaimed. “We have the defending ASA Member Track National Champion coming back this year and the young guns are going to try to knock the veteran off of the mountain.”
Allen enjoys watching the different generations compete every Friday night. “It’s pretty cool watching how a veteran like Barry Beggarly controls his car and then you watch a young driver like Dustin Rumley or Dillon Bassett do the same thing and you can’t believe how they do it and learn this quick.”
Bassett is a 14-year-old driver who won the Limited Late Model championship last season over Ziggy Zimmerman and Ross “Boo Boo” Dalton.
Ace Speedway has become a track in North Carolina to help young drivers develop their skills. “We are more than happy to welcome them here and take them through our college here at Ace Speedway,” Allen said. “We like the fact that Ace Speedway is becoming the place for a young driver, like Jeb Burton was last year, gain some experience to help them move up to the next level or become a short track hero like Barry Beggarly has become today.”
“We are very proud to have Ace Speedway as part of the ASA Member Track program, and especially proud of how Brad Allen and his staff have turned this speedway around to be successful,” Dennis Huth, ASA Racing President said. “Many fans were worried about the future of Ace Speedway until Brad came on board in 2009. But he and his staff have made the track successful again and the fans and competitors are responding positively to what they are doing there. We wish them a successful 2012 season.”
Ace Speedway kicks off their 2012 season on Friday, April 6 with the Late Models, Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, and Extremes in action. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Racing starts at 8:00pm.
