ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards General Tire Pole Award Battle Heads to Lucas Oil Raceway

The battle for the season long General Tire Pole Award for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards could come to a head in Saturday’s rescheduled Shore Lunch 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway. Two drivers, championship leader Sheldon Creed (No. 28 United Rentals Toyota) and sixteen-year-old Chandler Smith (No. 20 Craftsman Toyota) enter with four General Tire Pole Awards each.

Smith set a modern era ARCA record earlier in the season when he earned the pole award in each of his first four career series starts at Nashville, Salem, Toledo, and Madison. But at just 16 years old, Smith is not yet eligible to compete on tracks larger than one mile, meaning he will not be entered in the season finale at Kansas on October 19.

Creed scored three consecutive pole awards at Gateway, Chicagoland, and Iowa. He earned his fourth pole award of the season at DuQuoin, evening up the season-long standings.

With Smith not able to compete at Kansas, Creed can lock up the season-long award with a pole at Lucas Oil Raceway. Should Smith win the General Tire Pole Award at Lucas Oil Raceway, Creed would still have one opportunity to even up the standings at Kansas. If they end the season tied, Creed will win the tie breaker based on the number of events entered and competed.

Other drivers to have won a General Tire Pole Award in 2018 include Gus Dean (No. 32 GREE Cooling Products/Baker Distributing Chevrolet), Pocono and Springfield; Natalie Decker (No. 25 N29 Capital Partners Toyota), Daytona; Michael Self (No. 55 Sinclair Lubricants Toyota), Talladega; Todd Gilliland (No. 54 DGR-Crosley Toyota), Charlotte; Brandon Jones (No. 12 Mobil 1 Toyota), Michigan; Christian Eckes (No. 15 JBL Audio Toyota), Elko; Carson Hocevar (No. 35 KBR Development Chevrolet), Berlin; and Zane Smith (No. 41 LaPaz Margarita Mix/ICON Vehicle Dynamics Toyota), Salem.
