ARCA: Michael Self Wins SCOTT 150 at Chicagoland Speedway

Michael Self took his No. 15 Sinclair Lubricants Toyota to victory lane at Chicagoland Speedway on Thursday in the SCOTT 150. Self, from Salt Lake City, Utah, started third on the leaderboard and saw the lead numerous times throughout the 150-mile race. The driver, making just his sixth start of the year in the ARCA Racing Series, went on to score his third career victory after leading 63 of the 102 circuits.

The win did not come easy for Michael Self in the closing laps. With six laps remaining at Chicagoland Speedway, Leilani Munter spun in turn two to display the third yellow flag of the night. While crews focused on cleaning the track, Self and other leaders upfront came down pit road while Riley Herbst stayed out to take the lead.

The field later went back to green with two laps remaining in the SCOTT 150. Herbst had a bad restart and Self saw an opportunity to take the lead away. Once out front with the lead, Self cruised to victory at the 1.5-mile oval.

Herbst went on to a sixth-place finish while Munter finished 20th.

Pole sitter Sheldon Creed will leave Chicagoland Speedway with a runner-up finish. Creed, earning the win last weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park and earlier in the year at Michigan International Speedway, now has 10 top five and 10 top 10 finishes through 11 races.

The California native came into the 100-lap event leading the series driver standings.

Todd Gilliland will round out the top three finishers in the SCOTT 150. Gilliland, racing the No. 54 Frontline Enterprises Toyota for father David Gilliland, started eighth on the leaderboard and spent 28 circuits as the leader in his second ARCA start of the season.

Gilliland started on the pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway the last time out and later finished fourth.

Zane Smith and Chase Purdy rounded out the top five finishers.

Three caution flags were displayed for single car incidents along with Leilani Munter in the closing laps. Eric Caudell in the No. 2 Dodge brought out the first yellow flag in turn two on lap 14. Tom Berte brought out the next yellow flag on lap 32 in turn four. Caudell and Berte went on to finish 21st and 19th on the leaderboard.

The next race on the ARCA Racing Series tour will be the Fans With Benefits 150 at Iowa Speedway on July 7th.
