NWES Cars shine At The Race Of Champions

In what was the 8th consecutive selection for the world-famous Race Of Champions, the Euro NASCAR cars shined at the King Fahd Stadium of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, delivering fun and speed for the drivers and an exciting show for the fans.

All the champions taking part in the ROC had the chance to drive the NWES car, sliding and jumping around the unique stadium track with the thunderous V8 roaring under the hood and all of them praised the car’s unique character and performances.

“It was a fantastic Race Of Champions and we are very proud our NASCAR Whelen Euro Series cars were part of it !” said NWES President / CEO Jerome Galpin. “Watching some of the greatest champions driving and enjoying our Euro NASCAR is another confirmation of how unique these cars are. They have this ability to provide great fun to every kind of driver and to fit to every kind of track. I really don’t see any other race car able to do this. And if you add the financial dimension, then, there is no other car able to compete our performances / reliability / cost / fun ratio !”

On Saturday the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series car was featured in the Race Of Champions final between legendary David Coulthard and WRC and Rallycross World Champion Petter Solberg. Both pushed their Euro NASCAR to the limit, sparing no effort for the delight of the fans and putting up a fabulous race, from which Coulthard emerged the winner. The Scottish driver went on to grab his second Champion of Champions title after winning the traditional off-season competition in 2014.

On Friday it was the German team of Timo Bernhard and René Rast to defeat the Latin American team of Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves in the Nations Cup. A rookie in the ROC, Rast pulled an upset in one the final rounds by beating last year’s overall winner Montoya in the NWES cars.

The list of motorsport icons that took the wheel of the European NASCAR car during the weekend and smiled talking about how effective and entertaining it is, is simply impressive:  Word Rally and Rallycross champion Petter Solberg, Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen, three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves, Indycar champions Ryan Hunter-Reay and Josef Newgarden, Formula 1 race winner David Coulthard, motorsport icon Juan Pablo Montoya, FIA World Endurance Champion Timo Bernhard, DTM Champion René Rast, FIA World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson, European Le Mans Series Champion Memo Rojas, upcoming talents Lando Norris and Joel Eriksson, sim-racers Rudy Van Buren and Enzo Bonito – the Italian won the eROC race – plus Saudi racers Ahmed Bin Khanen and Yazeed Al-Rajhi.

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will now enter the rush of the pre-season, with teams and drivers working hard to prepare to become NASCAR Champion. The first event of the NWES season will take place in Valencia, Spain on April 14-15.
