Today two-time NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Champion Anthony Kumpen officially joined the exclusive group of athletes supported by Monster Energy. The Belgian is the first NASCAR Whelen Euro Series driver to be supported by the energy drink brand sponsoring the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in the US.
“As a NASCAR driver, it is a great honor to be able to work with Monster Energy,” said Kumpen, who closed the 2014 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season second in points behind Alon Day. “I think it is just a super cool brand and its unique character completely suits me. The combination of Monster’s style and their products are fully in line with me.”

Kumpen joined the European NASCAR series in 2014 and in fours seasons amassed two titles, 10 wins – most among active NWES drives – and four pole positions, together with 36 top-5s. Thanks to his success in the European NASCAR Series, in 2015 the Hasselt-native became the first NWES driver to compete at the Daytona International Speedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener.
Expectations for the 2018 NWES season are high and Kumpen is looking forward to another tight battle for the title.
“Last year I drove my best season in terms of speed but so many other factors played a huge role. Bad luck is part of the sport, sometimes you take wrong decisions and those can of course determine the outcome of a championship.Winning a title is never easy, but with the speed we had last year and now with even more experience, we can have our say,” concluded the Belgian. “Finishing second is the most disappointing result, but when you finish second, you will work harder to be back at the top. Every detail is examined more closely and a championship is often decided by details.”
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season will begin on April 14-15 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo of Valencia, Spain, with the fifth edition of the hugely popular Valencia NASCAR Fest.
