Crum, Puryear ascend to Valleystar Credit Union Pole after Tech Issues

It was Jake Crum who won the Valleystar Credit Union 300 in 2009 and Stacey Puryear lucky night when technical inspection issues send both to the front row.

Following qualifying for the Valleystar 300 NASCAR race director Lynn Carroll informed both Jeff Oakley and Deac McCaskill their times had been disallowed following issues found with their carburetors. Oakley would be found with a spacer plate and McCaskill with the squirters inside the carburetor.

“The times were disallowed,” Carroll said. “(Oakley’s) car had an issue with a spacer plate which is not allowed for this event and (McCaskill’s car) had an issue with the squirters on the carburetors on his car.”

Crum who will start on the pole tonight along with Puryear have both elected to not participate this afternoon in their respective heat races in preparation of tonight’s 200 lap feature race.

“It means a lot,” Crum said.  “It means a lot for everybody that has put a lot of work into this.  It’s just an honor to be the first one under the lights here.  Hopefully we can bring home a win.”

Tonight’s race will be the first time Martinsville Speedway will go under the lights for a full featured night race since installing permanent LED lighting.

Heat races will kick off this afternoon at 4 PM with Tommy Lemons Jr. starting from the pole of Heat number one as a two-time winner, Matt Bowling starting from the pole for heat number two and four-time Whelen All American Series Champion Lee Pulliam starting from the pole for the final 25 lap heat race.

The Valleystar Credit Union 300 is scheduled to get underway for 200 laps under the lights at 8 PM and will be broadcasted on selected MRN Radio affiliates along with MRN.com.
