ARCA: Austin Theriault Wins Crosley Brands 150 at Kentucky Speedway

The ARCA Racing Series visited Kentucky Speedway for the Crosley Brands 150 at the 1.5-mile Midwest oval on Friday. Kentucky, serving as race 19 of 20, provided plenty of action throughout the 100-lap, 150-mile event.

Sheldon Creed, driving the No. 28 United Rentals Toyota, started on the pole for the event by posting a 29.301, 184.294 mph. in two-lap / single-car qualifying earlier on Friday. Creed, a 19-year old driver from California, captured his first career ARCA Racing Series pole as a result.

When the checkered flag fell, Austin Theriault found himself leading the field in a two-lap finish at the end of the Crosley Brands 150. With the win on Friday, Theriault will essentially clinch the series championship as the series heads to Kansas Speedway next month for the season finale.

Theriault started 12th and stayed around the 10th position for majority of the race until the closing laps. He then quickly charged to the front by staying out of trouble to score his seventh ARCA Racing Series victory of the year.

Zane Smith will leave Kentucky with a second-place finish in the No. 8 LaPaz Margarita Mix Toyota. Smith started in the runner-up position and captured his sixth top five and 10th top 10 finish of the year through 13 starts.

Sheldon Creed will round out the top-three finishers on Friday at Kentucky after starting on the pole. Creed led majority of the laps despite getting into an incident with Con Nicolopoulos on the backstretch while leading on lap 33. Despite the gash on the side of the No. 28 United Rentals Toyota, Creed was able to continue without any effect.

Ty Majeski, one of the fan favorites going into the Crosley Brands 150, finished sixth after starting the night in third. The Roush Fenway Racing development driver will go into the season finale at Kansas with one top five and four top 10 finishes through four starts this year.

Several key drivers found themselves in accidents during the race. On lap 87, Gus Dean and Chase Purdy went around on the backstretch to bring out the sixth caution flag of the evening. The two drivers finished behind the wall in 17th and 18th as a result.

Codie Rohrbaugh’s night ended early on lap 93 following the restart in turn one. A number of cars tangled as they darted for positions with four laps remaining. Everyone else continued while Rohrbaugh finished in the garage sitting 16th on the leaderboard.

The next race for the ARCA Racing Series will be at Kansas Speedway on October 20. Coverage will begin live on FOX Sports 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET. ARCARacing.com will also carry live timing and scoring of the season finale.
