Bromante’s Montgomery Return Deflated by Flat Tire

In what was appearing to be another top ten run, Giovanni Bromante saw his good run deflate with a left rear tire on Saturday night at Montgomery Motor Speedway. Closing in on the top five after charging through the field, the mid-race stop to change the tire relegated him to a result near the tail of the cars remaining on-track at the end of the race.

 

Bromante and team unloaded the Sandler Capital Toyota for the second time in Giovanni’s career at the half-mile Alabama track with a fair amount of speed, approximately a tenth of a second outside of the top five times. Unlike his previous visit to Montgomery, his maiden voyage in a pro late model, Bromante picked up time during qualifying and lined up to take the green flag from outside row eight.

 

Once the flag dropped, Bromante began to work his way forward, much like he has done in nearly every race this season. While closing in on the top five, he noticed the handling began to go away on the car and it felt nothing like he had experienced in practice or other races in his short career. After consulting with the crew over the radio, the No. 98 Toyota came to pit road for assessment where a leaking left rear tire was found and ultimately replaced. Unfortunately for Giovanni, he lost substantial track position and was credited with a 14th place finish at the checkered flag.

 

“I thought the weekend went great, sadly the race was just a wreckfest after the first 48 laps,” Bromante explained after the race. “It was just crazy, they were just wrecking left and right and I just let them do whatever they had to do and I came home with a car with barely any damage. Meanwhile, other people didn’t even have a car left, but it was a great weekend and we were very fast. The track came to me very quickly and even with the flat tire, I’m just happy we came home with a car.

 

“There were definitely a lot more wrecks than any of us expected,” he continued. “I was making some great passes on people. Just after halfway it started to act weird, and I didn’t realize I had a flat tire. That definitely hurt me. I went into the corner and I thought something broke so I came into the pits and there was a slow leak in the tire. The DGR guys got it changed, but it was so hard to pass anyone afterwards with all the cautions.”

 

Giovanni’s next race will be another visit to Montgomery as part of their Show Me The Money Series, one of the most highly-regarded pro late model series in the country. Once again, Giovanni will compete for 100 laps on the Saturday prior to Fathers Day, June 17, with the David Gilliland Racing team.
