A strong fifth place finish in Mason Mingus’s ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards return a couple weeks ago at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville has earned the Brentwood, Tennessee native another opportunity to pilot the No. 33 Toyota Camry for AM Racing’s development team Win-Tron Racing in Sunday’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem Speedway.
“I’m very thankful for this opportunity to get back in the ARCA car for Win-Tron Racing this weekend,” said Mingus. “We had a tremendous run in Nashville a couple weeks ago. The team made some great calls and we utilized strategy to our advantage and quietly earned a top-five finish.
“This weekend we want to be a little more loud and proud at one of my favorite race tracks on the ARCA circuit.”
Salem Speedway, although a very demanding race track is full of rich history and priceless moments has become a staple in ARCA’s 20-race schedule. Furthermore, it’s one of Mingus’s best short tracks statistically.
In six races at the historic southern Indiana race track, Mingus has earned five straight top-10 finishes bagged with a personal-best sixth place run in September 2012. Last fall, Mingus returned to Salem after a three-year hiatus and finished eighth.
This Sunday, the 22-year-old driver is looking for his first top-five run on the heels of a strong test there last week.
“I love Salem,” added Mingus. “Yep. It’s just that cool of a place. The track has changed a little bit since it was partially repaved, but it still hoists some of its familiar and yes even treacherous characteristics. That leads to a good race for the fans. That’s what is most important. Sunday should be a good show.
“The test went really good. We had speed right off the truck. The Win-Tron Racing guys bust their tails to get us even faster throughout the day. It never hurts to get some extra laps at one of your favorite places.”
For Sunday’s third ARCA race of the season, Mingus will boast his long-term relationship with Call 811 Before You Dig Kentucky — who will serve as the primary marketing partner for the 200-lap race this weekend.
Kentucky 811 was formed in 1987 under the name of Kentucky Underground Protection, Inc. by the owners and operators of underground facilities in the state of Kentucky as a means of reducing damage to those facilities and to promote public safety by reducing the number of incidents statewide.
Kentucky 811 is a free statewide computer operated communication system, designed to save time, money, costly lawsuits, and dramatically reduce accidental dig-ins. Kentucky 811 is a non-profit corporation made up of operators of underground facilities within the State of Kentucky.
“I’ve been fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with the 811 program and I’m thankful we’re able to continue that this weekend at Salem with the Kentucky 811 division,” Mingus added. “811 has such an instrumental program where it really makes a difference and I can’t thank them enough for sticking with me.”
Mingus continues to pitch-hit for driver Justin Fontaine who continues to recovery from injuries sustained at Daytona International Speedway in February. Earlier this month, the team announced that Fontaine’s recovery is progressing better than expected and he should return to competition by early June at the latest.
Kevin Cywinski, team principal at Win-Tron Racing says it feels like old times with Mingus at the helm.
“We had a lot of fun when Mason was a full-time competitor in ARCA,” said Cywinski. “He really worked hard to become a better driver – and a good team player. Things went very well at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and I know everyone is focused on a duplicate performance, if not better this weekend.”
In addition to Kentucky 811, ProMATIC Automation will serve as an associate marketing partners for Mingus’s 37th career ARCA start.
The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA 200 (200 laps / 111 miles) is the third of 20 races on the 2017 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. Practice begins Sat., Apr 29 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. General Tire pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 3:30 p.m. The race is set to take the green flag the following day, Apr. 30 shortly after 2:15 p.m. ARCARacing.com will stream live timing and scoring throughout the weekend’s activities, while the race will be tape-delayed on MAVTV.
