Legend Car Standout Matt Mead ready for Late Model Debut with Anthony Campi Racing

This Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway, 17-year old racing prodigy Matt Mead will make his debut in a pro late model. The Erie, Pennsylvania, native will pilot the No. 81 Toyota out of the Anthony Campi Racing (ACR) camp in the pro late model season opener, his first race in a full-size car.

 

Mead tested a pro late model for the first time in his career in late December with the ACR crew. Mead has proven success in every racecar he has piloted thus far in his career and the pro late model was no different. Mead’s weekend will start with a full day of testing Friday in preparation for Saturday’s 50 lap feature.

 

“I’m really excited to work with Anthony Campi Racing and I’m hoping we can pick up exactly where we left off after our test in December,” said Mead. “Racing around other cars for the first time in one of these full size cars will be the biggest challenge. Making improvements throughout the weekend will be the main focus for me.”

 

Mead began racing Bandoleros at his home track of Lake Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania at the young age of 12. Since then, Matt’s success has continued. After just two years in the Bandolero, Mead stepped into the Legend car, picking up where he left off with the wins. Last summer, Mead made his second attempt at the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout championship. After winning 30% of the races, Mead finished the season as the runner-up for the championship.

 

Mead’s success is expected to continue as he climbs the ladder in racing with ACR. ACR is a well known, successful team across the country. Last year, ACR was a championship contender and won eight prestigious races during the season. ACR plans to continue the success this year with Matt Mead behind the wheel.

 

“I’ve been watching a lot of race videos on YouTube from New Smyrna and turning countless laps on the iRacing simulation trying to get ready for this weekend,” Mead said when asked how he is preparing for the upcoming race. “I’ve also been strength training trying to get my body where it needs to be for the higher speeds and bigger g-forces I’ll be feeling inside the car. In all reality, if we can finish better than where we start, I’ll consider the weekend a success and be happy.”
