Gary was instrumental in developing the diversity program for drivers and crewmembers as well as teaching and helping Alan Gustafson improve his skills before moving onto being a crew chief in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Hendrick Motorsports.

“I am very thrilled that this race was put together and I think it is so cool to see John Alan and Gary work together, it's such a neat deal to see a legend like Gary help his grandson move up to the big leagues of racing.” “I am glad that Team Stange can be part of John’s start”.
