Los Angeles Collector Outbids Rivals For Rare 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso at Pebble Beach Auction - Speedway Digest

Noted Los Angeles Ferrari collector David SK Lee employed an unorthodox bidding strategy to take home a car that he has dreamed about since he was a young boy. The famed 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso has seen a meteoric rise in value the past decade, fueled in large part by the stunning Pininfarina design. Just 350 Lussos were produced during the unusually short 18–month production run.

“I knew I wanted the silver Lusso which was coming up at the Gooding & Co. Pebble Beach auction. I also know that this weekend attracts people from around the world who have the means and determination to buy whatever car they want. We had a good idea what the car was worth and what my limit was, so I decided to avoid a long, drawn out bidding process which tends to get people more emotionally involved and willing to move up the price bid by bid. I think by making my opening bid at $2 million, some people didn’t have time to think about starting that high. Today I was lucky and get to take home one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made,” noted Lee.

The Lusso will join Lee’s growing collection of Ferraris, five of which were displayed at this weekend’s Quail Motorsports Gathering. His collection includes: 288 GTO, one of two 288 GTO Evo’s with 650HP, F40, F50, Enzo, 330 GTS and a 275 GTB short nose alloy 6 carb.
