Ruston rallies late in the granite state 100

Kenzie Ruston rallied from twenty-fourth to fourteenth in the closing 20 laps of the Granite State 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The fourteenth place finish snapped Ruston’s recent top-5 and top-10 streak, however, she was able to maintain ninth place in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series points as the series heads to the Columbus Motor Speedway.

Plagued by handling issues the entire weekend, Kenzie Ruston was un-phased when Crew Chief Mike Fritts called her to pit-lane with 23 laps remaining. “I never questioned Mike’s decision to come to pit road,” said Ruston. “We didn’t have a winning car, we didn’t even have a top-20 car for the majority of the weekend so it was worth the gamble.”

While Fritts may not have viewed the move a gamble, he was certainly impressed with his drivers’ determination in the closing stages of the race. “We struggled all weekend, a lot of drivers would have given up, but not Kenzie. Kenzie stands by this team and never gets down on anyone. She did a great job coming up through the field at the end, passing cars, and surviving the wreckage.”

The fourteenth place finish for Ruston was a disappointment, but with many of the drivers ahead of her in the points suffering misfortune, the finish still made for a good points day. “It’s amazing to say it was a good points day,” said Ruston. “Normally a finish outside the top-10 is a killer in the points, but I guess our luck wasn’t as bad as some of the guys we are competing with in the top-10 in the standings.”
