Running inside the top-10 for much of the Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway, third-generation NASCAR driver Jesse Little came home with a solid finish that advanced the 17-year old to fifth place in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship standings.
Another top-10 finished gained plenty of notice for Little and Team Little Racing, but it was NASCAR’s announcement on Friday afternoon prior to the start of the race that has the racing community abuzz.
Little, the reigning Sunoco Rookie of the Year on the K&N East Series, was one of 12 drivers selected for the prestigious NASCAR Next program, which highlights up and coming talent in the sport. Industry executives and veteran racers were part of the selection process that chooses the elite group.
“It’s an honor to be part of the NASCAR Next class of 2014-15,” Little said. “We work hard every week to be among the top teams in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and Richmond was no different as we came way with a good points day and a solid finish.
“We know that by being part of the NASCAR Next program this team will have plenty of attention at each race we compete and we’re going to continue to be at our best to show we’ve earned this honor.”
New opportunities for partners to join Little’s racing efforts this season could come about since he’s a part of the NASCAR Next class, he added.
“The exposure our team has with the NASCAR Next program is a great showcase for our current sponsors and those interested in being part of this team as we go forward in the season. Our finishes are solid each week and a win is just around the corner. Those are exciting things for a partner to be involved with as our season still has plenty of racing left.”
Little and his NASCAR Technical Institute Chevrolet return to NASCAR K&N Pro Series competition on May 17 as the series makes the first of two stops at Iowa Speedway. After Iowa the series closes out the month with 150-laps of close quarters excitement at the famed Bowman Gray Stadium on May 30.
Also on Little’s slate of activities for the month of May will be a return to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. In his only previous start in the series Little posted a runner-up finish last fall in Phoenix. Little’s team will take part in the West division’s first stop of the season at Kern County Raceway. The high-banked half-mile is located in Bakersfield, California.
