Spencer Gallagher Records Seventh-Place Finish at Mobile

Spencer Gallagher, driver of the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet Impala for GMS Racing, finished in the seventh position in the ARCA Mobile 200 at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway. Gallagher spent over 180 of 200 laps inside the top-10 and overcame a late race spin to capture his career-best finish at the Alabama short track.

“I’m really proud of my Allegiant Travel team,” said Gallagher. “This Chevrolet was bad fast and definitely should have been contending for the win at the end of the race. Pickle (crew chief, Ryan London) and these GMS Racing guys worked hard all weekend to get the setup just right on our Impala. I hate we didn’t get back up to the leaders after the spin, but glad we were able to finish inside the top-10.”

Gallagher started the 200-lap event from the 11th position and by lap 30, the Allegiant Travel Chevrolet moved into sixth-place. The Las Vegas, Nevada native consistently recorded lap times faster than the leaders and as the second caution flew on lap 60, Gallagher held the second position. London called his driver to the attention of the No. 23 GMS Racing pit crew for four tires, a minor air pressure adjustment, and fuel. A fast stop allowed Gallagher to restart from the lead on lap 67.

Over the next 60 laps, Gallagher continued to hold the second position to leader Grant Enfinger. On lap 132, a caution was displayed, slowing the pace of the field and allowing London to call Gallagher to pit road once again for four tires and fuel. The 24-year-old restarted from the fifth position and within 10 laps had raced his way back into second-place.

With 25 laps remaining, Gallagher was shuffled to the outside lane, allowing the preferred passing groove on the bottom to gain momentum on the Allegiant Travel machine. On lap 182, Gallagher received contact from behind, spinning the No. 23 Chevrolet Impala sideways. Despite not receiving any damage, Gallagher was relegated to the 11th position, marking the first laps outside the top-10 since the start of the event.

The final 10 laps were slowed by two cautions, but Gallagher pressed forward in his march to return to the front of the field. As the checkered flag flew, the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet crossed the finish line in the seventh position.

The next event on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule is the Federated Auto Parts ARCA 200 at Salem (Ind.) Speedway. The race starts at 2:15PM ET, with live timing and scoring on ARCAracing.com.
