NASCAR artist Sam Bass is known for his work capturing the emotion and historic moments in our sport. As he prepares to head to Bristol Motor Speedway, the program cover he designed for them is no

“Bristol has such a rich history of great rivalries over the years. My vision was to take the great “Bristol Battles” in recent years and put the viewer of my art right in the middle of it all,” Bass explained of his thoughts for the August 2013 night race at Bristol Motor Speedway program cover.

Explaining his vision for the 2013 design, Bass said, “I used the famous Tony Stewart helmet toss at Matt Kenseth’s car from last August as the central focus. T
he viewer becomes the umpire watching Tony throw a perfect strike in a packed stadium. In the night sky, high above the modern day colosseum, are the portraits of spirited competitors Dale Earnhardt and Terry Labonte along with Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace as they light up the moon. Images of their on track battles, pierce the night sky.”

“This is one of my favorite Bristol paintings ever,” Bass said exuberantly.

As he prepares for a busy schedule at Bristol, Bass shared his love for the track.

“Bristol is like no other track on the circuit. I love standing on pit row, right before the race. The sense of electricity in the air, the night sky, the lights bouncing off the cars, the flashes from all the cameras in the grandstands…You just know that the sparks are about to fly and it is truly one of the greatest moments in NASCAR!”
