Earnhardt finishes 33rd at Daytona

A tough night left Jeffrey Earnhardt with a 33rd-place finish in Friday’s Subway Firecracker 250 Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway.

Earnhardt started 39th after a wild qualifying session that was marred by a sudden rainshower. The rain caused a nine-car accident on the backstretch.

Earnhardt drove 56 laps in the race before leaving the car during the race’s first caution because of a shoulder injury. Relief driver Matt DiBenedetto took over and finished the race in the myHealthyUS/Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Chevrolet fielded by JD Motorsports with Gary Keller.

Earnhardt stayed in 17th in Nationwide driver points.

Sprint Cup regular Kasey Kahne won the race by a few feet in a crowded finish.
