This weekend the NASCAR Nationwide Series will head off to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the 32nd annual Dollar General 300. The entry list currently features a total of 46 unique drivers. Joey Logano goes into this weekend as the defending race winner for this race.

The entry list features several drivers including, Blake Koch, Ryan Reed, Tanner Berryhill, Joey Logano, Robert Richardson, Jr., Ken Butler, Kevin Harvick, James Buescher, T.J. Bell, Chad Hackenbract, Danny Efland, Jamie Dick, Derrike Cope, Kevin Lepage, Dexter Stacey, Reed Sorenson, and Kevin Swindell.

15 drivers will have to qualify tomorrow in on speed. Those drivers include, Blake Koch, Ryan Reed, Tanner Berryhill, Matt Kenseth, James Buescher, Josh Wise, J.J. Yeley, Danny Efland, Joey Gase, Jamie Dick, Derrike Cope, Kevin Lepage, Dexter Stacey, Reed Sorenson, and Kevin Swindell.

Storylines:

Last weekend at the Kansas Speedway, Austin Dillon passed Sam Hornish, Jr. for the points lead with an eight point going into tomorrow night’s Dollar General 300. The last two races, Hornish has finished in the 17th position allowing Dillon to pass him in the standings. He is still looking for his first career win this season in the No. 3 Chevrolet.

With the points battle heating up, so is the points for the owners title. The Penske Racing No. 22 Ford leads the points standings by just five points over Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54 team. With the No. 22 failing post-race inspections after Dover and then the 28th place finish last week at the Kansas Speedway, the No. 54 has came within five points to winning the owners title.

Many teams will carry special paint schemes tomorrow night honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Those drivers include, Brian Vickers, Kyle Busch, Nelson Piquet, Jr., and James Buescher.

Last weekend at the Kansas Speedway, we saw an interesting race with Goodyear’s new multi-zone tire 2.0. The tire company has used this technology on passenger cars for nearly a decade before bringing it into racing. This tire has two unique compounds to allow more traction and endurance.

The tire debated at the Atlanta Motor Speedway last month where it had a lot of success on the older surface. The tire used at the Atlanta Motor Speedway was partially made up of the same tire used at Michigan and outer half made up of the previous Atlanta compound.

Jeff Gordon said the newer repaves the last several years has been the cause of these changes and feels repaving tracks needs to be looked at differently because It‘s a race track and not a highway. He also said the teams had the same issues at Phoenix and Darlington since they did their repaves. Its possible that we could see changes coming to the tires next season at several tracks that’s hard on them.

“I applaud their effort for trying to do this duel tread zone whatever you want to call it,” said Jeff Gordon. "I mean, for me the issues weren’t as treacherous for me. The grip level wasn’t as good as I would like it to be, and the falloff wasn’t as much as I’d like it to be, but some guys seem to set their car up a little freer had bigger issues on the restarts than we did. My car was a little tighter so it would take off halfway decent on restarts. It didn’t get up to speed good but it was at least comfortable.”

Kansas race winner Kevin Harvick nearly said the same thing as Jeff Gordon. Harvick said he feels they keep repaving tracks with stuff that puts the tire company in a box going forward. Though, He likes what Goodyear has developed.

Goodyear has no plans yet to bring this tire to the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races yet. NASCAR and Goodyear will meet sometime today and discuss what they find when they download all of the information.

Today, Brian Scott will make his 200th career NASCAR start at Kansas Speedway. Brian has many starts across the NASCAR Camping World Truck and NASCAR Nationwide Series.

He has two wins in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, including one win that came last year at Phoenix. In that win, he led a total of 48 laps that made up the distance. His other win came back in 2009 at Dover International Speedway where he led only 14 laps that day.

Since coming to the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008, Brian has made 137 starts, eight top-fives, 35 top-10s, and two total poles. He hopes to leave Kansas Speedway with his first win in the Nationwide Series.

“Its obviously been a fun ride. The one thing I have not done in my 200 starts is to win a Nationwide race, and that’s the top of my priority right now is to go out there and get a great qualifying run and win in my 200th start,” said Brian Scott.

Scott will start today’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race in the sixth position after running a time of 29.463 seconds, 183.281 mph. he was just 0.182 seconds off pole sitter Austin Dillon’s lap.

Kyle Busch has always had trouble at the Kansas Speedway in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In twelve total starts, he has finished in the top-10 only twice in his career.

Last April, he started the race from the fifth position, but was out of the race due to a crash towards the middle of the event. This weekend could be the race that could make him stumble down hill.

He qualified in the 18th spot yesterday afternoon with a lap of 29.252 seconds, 184.603 mph. Busch will have to go to a back up car after a nasty crash early on in the second practice. Therefore, he will have to move to the rear on Sunday.

Frank Kimmel captured the win at the Kansas Speedway after a weather shortened event last night. Kimmel led a total of 31 laps of the 65 lap event that made up the Kansas Lottery 98.9 The Rock. Not only did Kimmel win the race, but he also went out to win his 10th career ARCA Racing Series championship.

Mason Mitchell continues his great run after earning his ninth consecutive top-10 finish by scoring a second place victory last night. Mitchell leaves this season on a high note and could be a huge threat for the championship in 2014.

John Wes Townley went on to finish third in the event after starting in the 15th spot. Townley captured his second top-5 finish of the season last night. Both of those top-5 finishes came at Daytona opener and last night.

Dylan Kwasniewski captured the pole in qualifying held just before the event with a time of 30.539 seconds, 176.823 mph. Kwasniewski went on to finish in the fourth position in his ARCA debut. He will most likely run Daytona next February to be approved to run in the NCWTS or the NNS.

Justin Boston captured the Rookie of the Year title away from Mason Mingus. Boston finished the year earning eight top-fives, 16 top-10s, and two poles. He goes into 2014 looking for his first win in the ARCA Racing Series.

Next race for the ARCA Racing Series will be at Daytona International Speedway for the season opener.

Sprint Cup Series qualifying will take place later on this afternoon for Sunday’s 13th annual Hollywood Casino 400. 43 drivers will attempt to make the field for Sunday’s race as no drivers will go home.

Last April, Matt Kenseth won the pole after posting a fast lap of 28.144 seconds, 191.864 mph. Kenseth then went on to win the race after nearly passed by hard charging Kasey Kahne. Matt will go out in the eleventh place later on today.

Last weeks pole sitter Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will try to go out and win the pole this afternoon for the second week in a row. Earnhardt, Jr. will go out seventh today in the qualifying order. Dale qualified 26th last April at Kansas.

Kevin Harvick ran the fastest lap earlier in the first practice session, and will try to back that up with a pole run. Harvick will have an advantage with a late qualifying run as he will go out 28th in the session.

The one and only practice session today went very smooth for all of the drivers to prepare for tonight’s Kansas Lottery 98.9 The Rock. It was a very interesting result when the practice session ended of the drivers on the top spot.

John Wes Townley was the fastest car of the day after the session with a fast time of 30.672 seconds, 176.056 mph. Townley will try to bookend the year with a win at Kansas after winning the opener at Daytona. This will be his 30th career start in the ARCA Racing Series.

Second in practice was Dylan Kwasniewski with a fast lap of 30.819 seconds, 175.217 mph. He was just 0.147 seconds slower than leader John Wes Townley. He will be one of the drivers who will make their ARCA Racing debuts.

Chad Boat was third on the sheet after the one and only practice session for the series with a fast lap of 30.840 seconds, 175.097 mph. Boat goes into tonight’s race making his ninth career start in the ARCA Racing Series.

Points leader Frank Kimmel was sixth on the practice sheet with a 30.962 seconds, 174.407 mph. Kimmel clinched his 10th career ARCA Racing Series Championship after running at least a lap in today’s practice session.

Many of the drivers featured this weekend include, Cole Whitt, Timmy Hill, Landon Cassill No. 33, Tony Raines No. 40, Justin Allgaier, and Reed Sorenson.

Storylines

Kyle Busch has a hurdle to get over this weekend at the Kansas Speedway where he has not ran so well. In twelve starts at this track, he has earned only two top-10 finishes. His best finish came back in 2006 where he came home in seventh.

Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon and Greg Biffle are still not out of the Chase just yet. Harvick currently sits 39 points behind leader Matt Kenseth. He comes into Kansas Speedway with no wins, but has captured six top-10 finishes. Jeff Gordon is also 39 points behind from the lead this weekend. Gordon captured the first two wins at the 1.5-mile oval in 2001 and 2002. He has only scored one top-10 in the last four races at this track. Greg Biffle is one of the favorites this weekend as he looks for his third win at Kansas. He has nine top-10s in 14 starts and currently sits sixth in the points standings.

Justin Allgaier will make his second NASCAR Sprint Cup start this weekend driving the No. 51 BRANDT Chevrolet for Phoenix Racing. His last start did not go so well after being involved in a racing incident early on. He was however, able to come back out onto the track for a 27th place finish at the Chicagoland Speedway.

Eleven drivers will battle to get into the race this weekend since two will be going home after qualifying. These drivers include, Blake Koch, Chase Miller, Chris Buescher, Matt Kenseth, Dakota Armstrong, James Buescher, Ryan Sieg, Josh Wise, J.J. Yeley, Joey Gase, and Mike Harmon.

Points leader Sam Hornish, Jr. goes into this weekends race four points ahead of second place Austin Dillon. Hornish has to start grabbing good finishes starting this weekend if he wants to contend for the championship.

The Penske dominance continues strong this weekend as they're running for a owners championship. The team currently leads the owners standings by 28 total points over Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54.

Last season Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. took the win at the Kansas Speedway by leading a total of 25 of the 206 laps that made up the distance. Trevor Bayne goes into the weekend looking for the teams second win of the season. His last victory came at the Iowa Speedway in June.

John Wes Townley won the ARCA Racing Series race at Daytona earlier this season will try to close out the season with a bang. Townley has four starts this season in ARCA and has only finished once in the top-10. He will be one of the strongest drivers to watch tomorrow night at the Kansas Speedway.

The Rookie of the Year battle is really tight coming into Kansas this weekend between Justin Boston and Mason Mingus. Boston leads the standings by just six points over Mason.

Justin Allison will make his ARCA Racing Series debut tomorrow night in the No. 88 HAVACOSALES.com Ford. Allison is from Salisbury, N.C. and he will be making his first professional Motorsports start this weekend.

Spencer Gallagher will be sporting a pink car supporting Breast Cancer Awareness around the Kansas Speedway tomorrow night. Spencer is excited about coming to Kansas Speedway where he felt like they had a great car during testing.
