Kyle Busch captured the victory this afternoon at the Auto Club Speedway by holding off hard charging drivers in a green, white and checker finish after many drivers had issues with tires late into the running. Kyle scored his 29^th career Sprint Cup Series victory and his second consecutive win at the two-mile oval. It also was Busch’s third career win at the track.

Finishing second was yesterday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series winner, Kyle Larson. Larson snuck his way towards the front after several of the front runners had problems with their tires late into the event. Today was his best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series finish and was also his second top-10 finish of the 2014 season. He was 0.214 seconds behind the race leader when he crossed the line to finish the race.

Finishing in third after leading two laps this afternoon was Kurt Busch, who also had a very strong day. Today at the Auto Club Speedway, Busch captured his first top-10 finish, and also came home with his best finish under the Stewart-Hass Racing banner. In 21 total starts at the two mile oval, Busch captured his 11^th top-10 finish. He lost the race by just 0.682 seconds when he crossed the line.

The top-five in the point’s standings heats up as they are separated from the leader by just seven point’s total. Carl Edwards, who was last week’s winner at Bristol, will leave this weekend with the points lead by one point over Dale Earnhardt Jr. Right behind him is his teammate Jeff Gordon who is one point back. In the fourth and fifth position sits Brad Keselowski and Matt Kenseth.

After out driving the top-two finishers in the closing laps, Kyle Larson scores his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series victory this afternoon at the Auto Club Speedway. He led a total of 17 laps of the event and led a total of four different times. It was Larson’s 38^th career start in the series after running full-time last season. By Larson winning the TreatMyClot.com 400, it ends Joe Gibbs Racing’s nine consecutive win streak at Auto Club Speedway in the Nationwide Series.

Finishing in second was another Californian driver, Kevin Harvick. Harvick led eight total laps of the event as he tried to get around Larson while battling him for the lead but could not stick. After five races this year, this will be his third top-10 in the series leaving California. It also will be his 15^th top-10 finish after making 18 starts in the series at the Auto Club Speedway. Harvick was just 0.342 seconds behind Larson when the checkers flew.

Coming home in third was Kyle Busch after also having a very strong day. Busch led the event a total of four different times to lead 25 laps combined. Today marked his 16^th Nationwide Series race at the Auto Club Speedway and his 13^th top-10 finish at the 2.0-mile oval. Busch finished 0.382 seconds behind the race leader this afternoon.

The point’s battle is heating up as the series will head to the Texas Motor Speedway in two weeks. Leaving Auto Club Speedway, Regan Smith and Trevor Bayne tied for the top spot in the points. Per the 2014 Nationwide Series rulebook, Smith will officially lead the standings for the tie breaker. The third and fourth positions are currently held by two top rookies of Ty Dillon and Chase Elliott. Dillon sits six points behind the two drivers upfront, while Chase Elliott finds himself eight points behind. Fifth is Elliott Sadler with three points behind before a 14 point separation with Brendan Gaughan in sixth.

Today at the Auto Club Speedway Elliott Sadler posted the fastest time to earn his 16^th career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole for the 16^th annual TreatMyClot.com 300. With about 30 seconds left in qualifying, Sadler posted the fastest time in the final round with a 40.680 seconds, 176.991 mph. Today will be his third start in the 2014 season where he has started inside the top-10.

Matt Kenseth, who is a teammate to Sadler, will start on the outside pole after posting a fast time of 40.690 seconds, 176.948 mph. This will be Kenseth’s fourth time in 2014 to start inside the top-10. He was 0.010 seconds off of Sadler’s fastest lap. Kenseth ended up eighth and third when the first and second round ended.

Ty Dillon will start today’s race from the third position after posting a fast lap of 40.748 seconds, 176.696 mph. Dillon was just 0.068 seconds from the fastest time in the final round to start inside the top-10 for his fourth time this year. He is also the highest qualifying rookie this afternoon.

Kyle Busch was the only car who did not post a time in qualifying due to not passing tech. NASCAR did not like the wheel studs on the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota and the rear skew. He will start today’s race from the 39^th spot per the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series rule book.

Matt Kenseth captured the pole for Sunday’s 18^th annual Auto Club 400 at the Auto Club Speedway after posting a fast time of 38.438 seconds, 187.315 mph. Kenseth scored his 12^th career pole for his first one of the 2014 season. Kenseth ran the fastest speed with about two minutes remaining in the final round.

With being the last car needed to turn a lap, within just seconds of the end of the final round, Brad Keselowski posted the second fastest time of the session. The Michigan driver ran only one lap to post a 38.481 seconds, 187.105 mph. Since Phoenix, Keselowski will start on the front row for his fourth consecutive time this season. Keselowski was just 0.043 seconds off of the pole sitter’s fastest time.

Starting third on Sunday afternoon will be Jimmie Johnson after posting a fast time of 38.516 seconds, 186.935 mph. Out of five races this year, Johnson will start inside the top-10 for his third time. It will be the six-time champion’s 13^th time of starting inside the top-10 at the Auto Club Speedway. Johnson was just 0.078 seconds off of Kenseth’s time.

This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will move west for the 18^th annual Auto Club 500 for the fifth race of the new 2014 season. This will be the one and only stop for the tour in 2014 at the speedway.

Entry list:

The entry list currently features a total of 43 drivers and will mean no one will be going home after qualifying. Two drivers, J.J. Yeley and Dave Blaney, have both been withdrawn from the race. Qualifying will be held Friday Friday evening at 7:40 p.m. Et., on Fox Sports 1.

Storylines:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. did not have a great run at the Bristol Motor Speedway and will try to turn around that bad finish last weekend. Earnhardt Jr. left Bristol without the points lead after finishing a disappointing 24^th. Besides last weekend, Earnhardt Jr. hopes to finish inside the top-two for his fourth time of 2014 and also hopes to leave Auto Club Speedway with the points lead once again. He currently sits second in the standings with 10 points behind Brad Keselowski.

Going into this weekend, Austin Dillon and Kyle Larson both battle each other for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors. Dillon leads Larson by only six points leaving Bristol. Larson has been on Dillon’s trail, shrinking the lead the last several races, and hopes to pass Dillon this weekend.

Nine drivers looks to grab a great finish this weekend as Auto Club Speedway is they’re home track. Those drivers to watch out for this weekend are, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, AJ Allmendinger, Kyle Larson, Casey Mears, David Gilliland, Cole Whitt, Kevin Harvick and Josh Wise.

Travis Kvapil will be making two milestones this weekend as he will be making his 250 Sprint Cup Series start. Not only will this be his 250^th start in the series, but also his 400^th NASCAR national Series start.

Storylines:

Heading into Auto Club Speedway this weekend, the NASCAR Nationwide Series points battle heats up between the top-three drivers. Regan Smith heads into this weekend with the points lead but right behind on his heels is Trevor Bayne by one point. Sitting in third, eight points back, is rookie Ty Dillon. Smith has led the standings since his win in the season opener at the Daytona International Speedway last month.

Not only is the points lead heating up, but so is the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings. With four races gone already, Ty Dillon and Chase Elliott respectively are showing why they’re the favorites. Both drivers are tied for the first position. Sitting in third and 14 points behind the leaders, is Dylan Kwasniewski.

Five drivers in the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be looking to impress as Auto Club Speedway is they’re home track. Those drivers to focus on are, Kevin Harvick, Matt DiBenedetto, Kyle Larson, Ryan Reed and Josh Wise.

Eddie MacDonald captured his seventh career NASCAR K&N Pro Series win this afternoon at the Bristol Motor Speedway by leading the final few laps. MacDonald broke a five year winless drought today and scored his first top-five finish of the 2014 racing season. He took the lead while Gray Gaulding battled with Ben Rhodes late in the running.

Gray Gaulding came home in the second spot after racing upfront for the entire day but just could not lead a lap. With today’s great run, Gaulding will finish inside the top-five for the first time his season. Out of two races ran this year, he has finished those inside the top-10. He lost the race by just 0.728 seconds.

Ben Rhodes nearly got his first career win once again this afternoon but came up just short. Rhodes suffered some fender damage late in the going that mostly cost him the race win. If Rhodes would’ve held onto the lead, he would have led the entire event wire-to-wire. By finishing in third, after starting from his first career pole, he finished inside the top-five for the fourth time in his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East career. Rhodes finished 0.991 seconds behind MacDonald.

Kyle Busch captured the victory this afternoon at the Bristol Motor Speedway by leading a total of 120 of the 300 laps to make up the 32^nd annual Drive to Stop Diabetes 300. Busch scored his 65^th NASCAR victory this afternoon as it was his 274^th start in the series. This was his seventh victory at the 0.533 mile oval that’s located in Tennessee.  

Kyle Larson came home in second after starting the event from his first ever pole. Though Larson only led two laps during the afternoon, he nearly caught race leader Kyle Busch for the lead but just couldn’t quite catch him in the closing laps. Larson lost the race by just 1.441 seconds.

After starting the day from sixth, Kevin Harvick finished the day with a third place finish in the No. 5 Chevrolet. Today was Harvick’s second start of the 2014 racing season and earned his second top-five finish this year. It was his 303rd career start in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Regan Smith will leave the Bristol Motor Speedway with the points lead. Bayne is currently just one point behind smith with Ty Dillon eight points behind the leader. Chase Elliott and Elliott Sadler rounds out the top-five.

Denny Hamlin broke the track record that his teammate, Kyle Busch, set in this race last year, for his 18^th career pole for Sunday’s 54^th annual Food City 500. Hamlin ran a fast time of 14.761 seconds, 129.991 mph. With 18 career poles in the Sprint Cup Series, it puts the driver from Virginia 38^th on the all-time list.

Brad Keselowski will start on the outside front row for his third time this season on Sunday afternoon. Keselowski ran a fast time of 129.965 mph, 14.764 seconds. He was just 0.003 seconds off of Hamlin’s fast time after making four total laps in the final round.

Matt Kenseth will start the event from third for his 12^th top-10 start at the 0.533-mile oval. It will be his second top-10 start of the 2014 Sprint Cup Series season. Kenseth’s fastest time came on his second lap of a 14.866 seconds, 129.073 mph. When the session concluded, he was 0.105 seconds off the pole sitter.

Two drivers will fail to qualify for the event, with those being David Reutimann and Dave Blaney. This will be the third time the No. 77 of Dave Blaney has failed to qualify for a race. During practice for the Duel 150’s at the Daytona International Speedway, Blaney got caught up into a crash and unfortunately had to withdraw because the team did not have a backup car.

Point’s leader, Dale Earnhardt Jr., will start Sunday in the 14^th position with a lap of 14.959 seconds, 128.271.

Four drivers got caught up in crashes this morning at the Bristol Motor Speedway in opening Sprint Cup Series practice.

Within three minutes of opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice, Danica Patrick got loose on the outside lane and hit the No. 30 of Parker Kligerman. Patrick suffered some heavy damage and will move to a backup car. The Swan Racing team will try and repair the No. 30 that suffered some fender damage in the session.

Kyle Busch touched the wall off turn two to cause some damage to his right side fender and rear quarter panel portion. Busch, driving the No. 18 Skittle’s car this weekend, will be another driver who will move to a backup car.

Greg Biffle, driving the No. 16 Ford, spun his car off turn four and smacked the outside wall. After he smacked the outside wall just before the start/finish line, Biffle tried correcting the car, but was unsuccessful and smacked the inside wall that damaged the front end. Biffle will also move to a backup for Sunday. The incident happed with about 57 minutes remaining in practice.

Justin Allgaier, who is a former winner at Bristol in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, came up the track to allow Jeff Gordon to easily pass him into turn one. Allgaier went a little too high that he couldn’t get off of the outside wall to also damage his right side. He will also switch to a backup car.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. also suffered some damage on his car during practice from a single car incident. Stenhouse Jr. will not go to a backup as they will fix the car prior to knockout qualifying later this afternoon.

Why are some drivers having problems? Well, many drivers have said it’s most likely caused by three things. The new rules package, new tire combination and the cold track temperature. The left sides being used in the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series is the same tire Goodyear brought to New Hampshire last season. The right side tires have a slight change into the tire compound. The tire set-up was set in a Bristol Motor Speedway test session last season in mid-September.

Because the drivers went to a backup car before qualifying, and that it can be fixed before knockout qualifying begins, they will not have to start the race at the rear per the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rulebook.
